Speaking today on a visit to Washington DC, British Army Chief Sir David Richards warned that the British government needed to come to a decision on how important it is to maintain the “special relationship” with the United States.
Sir David warned that while keeping ties with the US was a “no-brainer” in and of itself, the massive cost of maintaining that relationship in terms of military spending might not be worth it.
Britain has been struggling to get its military expenditures under control, much like the rest of Europe. US officials have been touring NATO member nations across the continent pressing them to dramatically increase military spending in this recessionary environment, however, insisting it is vital to keeping the alliance strong.
British officials have long prized their “special relationship,” but with budgetary worries front and center in British politics they will have a hard time justifying spending tens of billions of dollars annually just to keep the US happy.
Please tell me what is "special" about a relationship with a country that tries to get you to fight it´s illegal and immoral wars and pay for them as well?
Here's the question: who's getting whom to do fight their illegal and immoral wars? Last I checked, the US is picking up quite a few of the UK's own boondoggles like Iran, for example. Besides, it's not as if the UK is being dragged in kicking and screaming. From where I'm looking at it, the UK seems to be quite content to continue living its days of imperialist domination with the help of its former unruly colony. These two have a symbiotic relationship that benefits both. After all, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
The special here refers to Israel, the relationship between the Us and UK is special because it is all about protecting the raciest regime in the shitty little state. So, it does not matter how much it costs, its for the3 special ones.
I do not think this David Richards will be there for a long time now, he just put a very big bulls eye on himself. They will remove him soon.
"they will have a hard time justifying spending tens of billions of dollars annually just to keep the US happy".
But why ?- no price is to high to pay to keep the military industiral congressional complex happy.
Each and everyone of them will tell you so.
Richards' stating of the obvious is Step 1.
Step 2 is telling the US interlopers to go take a hike, and is extremely unlikely, unless economic realities overpower the stupidity of UK politicians. Not increasing military expenditures still means a very high, unsustainable level of spending.
Step 3 would involve actually reducing expenditures and removing themselves from specific geographic areas of the world.
USA/Israel are really the same nation so what the british are saying is: Lebanon defeat, Operation cast lead defeat'/disaster iraq invasion disaster, afgan loss/disaster, Iran to be disaster. The british are tired of being associated with the losing side. If they were not afraid of their special friend dropping a nuclear bomb they would just walk away.
LOL! The irony. The Brits overlords are venting the same complaints about their spoiled, bratty colony as those of us vent about our very own, spoiled, bratty illegitimate child, Isreal.
