Arriving in Tehran, IAEA chief Amano Yukiya has expressed optimism over this week’s Baghdad summit, and it seems that the naysayers on the P5+1 talks with Iran are clamming up in the face of signs of productive negotiations.
Even Israel, who not so long ago was condemning the Baghdad summit on general principle, is hinting at some compromise, with Defense Minister Ehud Barak issuing a statement that Israel would allow Iran to continue civilian enrichment of uranium at 3.5 percent.
This is a dramatic shift from Israeli statements just days ago, in which they demanded an unconditional abandonment of all civilian enrichment. An amendment to the latest US military spending bill also made this demand a formal part of US law.
The vast majority of Iran’s enrichment is at 3.5 percent, needed for the Bushehr power plant. A smaller portion has been enriched to 20 percent, the level needed for the US-built Tehran Research Reactor (TRR). Indications are that Iran has already produced materially all fuel the TRR could use for decades, and a deal would reportedly include trading this uranium for fuel rods specifically for the reactor. Iran had offered to abandon its 20 percent enrichment repeatedly if they were able to acquire fuel for the reactor, which produces medical isotopes.
You mean to tell me: Israel "might" agree to an "interim agreement" not push for "additional sanctions" in the future 'if' Iran closes down Fordow and ships virtually all of its stockpiles of enriched uranium out of the Country…. I assume this 'generous' offer will also require access to Parchin…
If Iran agrees to do all of this voluntarily, it will certainly make the impending bombing campaign a lot easier for all parties involved…except, of course, Iran…
Lol….
The sad thing is that through this entire process the only nation that has remained consistent in its position and negotiations has been- you guessed it- IRAN. Everyone else from the US and Israel on down has continually shifted and changed and backtracked to the point nobody knows who really knows what they want any longer while Iran has remained on track and on message from the start.
Now, when was Israel going to agree to the same inspections and protocols they're insisting Iran be held to?
I disagree. The US / Israel position is consistent – they want regime change. The nukes are just an excuse 'that everyone can agree on' (remember Iraq?). There is nothing the Iran government can do to appease them. The goalposts will always be shifted. Should the Iranians give away their civilian nuclear capabilities, expect the US/Israel to ramp up terrorism accusations.
To all that BS that comes out of Israel apartheide regime, what I want to know is if Israel will allow IAE and the 5+1 into its WMD program after Iran submetting the facts that Iran is not developing atom bomb.
Hey Mr Ditz, what has Irans obligations to the IAEA got to do with Israel..? Let us know.
ever since Amano became director general of the IAEA the latter has become an instrument of the United States government, so that if there are any obligations of Iran to the IAEA (as opposed to, e.g. obligations under the NPT) they have become obligations to the United States government.
The US is not negotiating in good faith . It NEVER has been since the Shah went… The US will kill any chance for resolution. War , subordination, and control is STILL the Pax Americana aim in Iran.
This means only that Obama has paid enough blackmail to Israel to delay the Iran war (and $10/gallon gas) until after the election. Democracy at work!
What if we had the foresight to sign the same Contract with Vietnam? Instead of turning over Vietnam to the communists we could still be there protecting our freedom and preventing communism from dominating the world. Just think how humbled Putin would be now if we had stayed, and how careful China would be about thinking twice when lending us money.
President Obama is a visionary, a seer and shaman of political expertise and skill.
His maneuvering America into position as the defender of freedom, democracy and the American Way, is much like the way Superman did in the 1950's. Yes, I know Superman was only a TV character, but today's World leaders, many of them, are capable of wiping all life off the face of the Earth in a matter of minutes. And that's something even Superman would have a hard time doing.
We must pay homage to our world leaders who for thousands of years have guided us despite technology to the same point we have always been and remain at. At the brink of distinction as the highest form of life on the Planet Earth. And now that we know there are perhaps billions of other planets, we must assure that we remain the only planet with what we call, intelligent life.
But I digress. And Afghanistan is not a digression from Iraq. But rather, it's the center of our foreign policy and the breeding grounds of terrorists like those caught in Chicago using police provided equipment to make lethal Molotov cocktails with police supervision and encouragement.
The Afghan farmers, bone menders and bakers who fight for Al Queda at night better think twice about simple revenge and continuing their struggle to get rid of foreign invaders in the face of American determination.
Let's not lose Afghanistan like we did Vietnam. In my opinion there's still time to save Vietnam, but it would require a massive effort on the part of the American people, we would have to sacrifice, we would have to bear down and I just don't think Obama could convince them to do that. That's why I'm voting for George Romney's son. I think he will.
