Speaking during a photo-op at ground zero, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta warned that the potential of another 9/11 is “very real” and tapped Yemen as a likely source for the next attack.
This comes just a day after US Ambassador to Afghanistan Ryan Crocker claimed that the decade-long occupation of Afghanistan was “the ultimate guarantee that there will not be another 9/11.”
Panetta, however, still saw threats coming out of both occupied Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan, as well as growing threats across the rest of the planet. He offered no solutions to this.
The reality, of course, is that both the Crocker and Panetta claims are grounded not in reality, but in expediency. Crocker was hoping to sell continuing the Afghan occupation for decades to come as a cure-all, while Panetta is hoping to add to his department’s already record budget by claiming threats are on the rise.
Under the Obama administration, drone attacks have increased five fold, both in Yemen and Afghanistan.
Leaving aside Panetta's speculative nonsense about Yemen, it should come as no surprise that the US has created many enemies in Yemen. After all, killing civilians in scores on a regular basis has the tendency to generate hatred among the locals.
Perhaps the US is hoping for so-called blowback. Perhaps it needs it to justify its overreaching empire of torture and murder.
So when the US bombs and bombs and bombs and bombs innocent civilians and along comes some Beltway insider who claims that those Yemenites hate us, it won't come as a surprise.
No wonder our economy is a mess. Everyone thinking of their own petty turf, regardless of the horrendous damage done. With this kind of thinking, we run banks, corporations, nuclear power plants. Having to face the consequences, our elite thinkers — politicians, captains of industry, think-tanks, presidential hopefulls, have no answers. Or, better put, have the answers that are pathetically inadequate to the situation. So, there will be more money tossed into foreign warfare and destruction, more money given to corporations, more money to banks, and tax our Social Security Fund deduction as a present to us, the little people. So, having done the only thing they know how — toss money on the problem — and wait for the money to grease the engine of our otherwise wonderfull economic engine. What a delusion! We have not had a good economic engine for a while. Production moved out, Fortunate 500 opened their big beaks, waiting for the federal contracts to feed them, while our godly financial sector was inventing money out of thin air.
Is it me or does Panetta look like he belongs in a pizza joint?
And, yeah, we know, we know, we know. Terror, terror and more terror. Drones, drones and more drones. Creating the "terrorists" faster than they can kill them.
"Is it me or does Panetta look like he belongs in a pizza joint? "
At least he'd be doing something useful and beneficial to humanity if he were in the pizza business.
Nobody wants to admit the obvious but America wants terrorism and wants a new 9-11. USA regime officials like Leon Panetta are almost embarrasingly longing for another 9-11, behind his "dire warnings."
With another 9-11, you will have Americans rallying around the flag, eager and willing to support whatever war or outrage the regime wants to perpetrate–just like after the first 9-11, which gave the Bush regime carte blanche to do what they wanted. As George Bush said after 9-11, "I hit the trifecta.'
Now the Obama regime wants the same 9-11 carte blanche.
And they just may get it … or deliberately create it.
Here comes another "false flag" operation..many have been wondering why so much time has gone by. I guess the pathetic fear propaganda campaign lodged against the American people is wearing off. Panetta is nothing more than what Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, and the US government have been for a long time..war criminals devoted to placating the plutcracy, and damning the American people.
We have credible information that somebody, somewhere, doesn't like us. Of course this must be dealt with swiftly and with lethal force.
