Israel Blocks Workers at New Checkpoint in Syria’s Quneitra

Two young men captured by the IDF in Maariyah released

Israel’s operations in southwestern Syria continue apace today, with troops and tanks entering the area of Quneitra Governorate near Jabata al-Khashab and setting up a checkpoint, preventing workers from accessing the road leading to the smaller village of Ain al-Bayda.

Exactly what they were doing there is unclear, and reported they spent around two hours blocking everyone from passing the road and conducted a survey of the area near rock crushing equipment, before eventually leaving.

Syrian state media reported on the checkpoint, but offered few details as well, reiterating that the government views the ongoing Israeli incursions as a violation of Syrian sovereignty and urging the international community to take action to prevent them in the future.

Yesterday, in the village of Maariyah, in the neighboring Daraa Governorate, the Israeli military carried out what was described as an “ambush” which led to the capture of a pair of youths in the village square.

Once again, Israel provided to details of why they did so or what they intended to accomplish, and the two were reported released unharmed after about ten hours.

United Nations teams were also in the area near Jabata al-Khashab today, detonating old caches of explosives which had been buried in the countryside.
