Israel continued with its drone strikes on southern Lebanon over the weekend, killing at least two people in separate strikes on Sunday and Monday mornings. The Sunday strike was in Nabatieh, while on Monday another vehicle was hit in Yater.
The Nabatieh strike killed one person in the southern town of Qalaway. The IDF issued a statement Monday claiming the person was Mohammad Ali Yassin, claiming he was involved in weapons development for Hezbollah.
The statement further claimed Yassin’s presence in southern Lebanon violates the understandings between Israel and Lebanon, though it’s not clear he was actively doing anything.
Details are less clear on the strike in Yater, though it has been confirmed one person was killed in a strike on a vehicle. The IDF has yet to issue a statement on the matter, and no one else has identified the victim.
Israel invaded Lebanon in late 2024, and while the November ceasefire was meant to see them withdraw by January, Israeli ground troops remain in parts of southern Lebanon, and locals report the IDF forces are preventing them from doing post-war repairs to the region.
Israel maintains that Hezbollah is violating the terms in the ceasefire, though Hezbollah has not launched a single rocket into Israel since the ceasefire went into effect. By contrast, Israel has launched many hundreds of strikes on Lebanese territory, often under the pretext of targeting Hezbollah.
