As the latest release of information reveals the unseemly way in which the US government behaves abroad, the Obama Administration was naturally quick to lash out at those whose whistleblowing showed the comfort with which President Obama and company took the reins of a despicable number of foreign policy decisions and left them, in the main, intact.
Outraged too were a number of Congressmen, with Senators Lindsey Graham (R – SC) and Claire McCaskill (D – MO) joining hands in a bipartisan call to prosecture WikiLeaks and its associates despite a paucity of information revealing that they committed any crime. Sen McCaskill slammed the foreign organization for being insufficiently patriotic.
Which was still a step up from Rep. Peter King (R – NY), who called on the State Department to declare WikiLeaks a “Foreign Terrorist Organization,” insisting that the release of factual information by the organization was “worse than a military attack.”
Sen. John Ensign (R – NV) has previously announced his intention to put forth a specific anti-WikiLeaks law that would label the organization a “transnational threat” and the group seems to be a popular scapegoat among long-serving officials. At the same time, the Tea Party movement won election victories by and large with promises of a more transparent (or at least less overtly crooked) government, and WikiLeaks’ revelations may well give them fodder to pursue the Obama Administration for some of its more obvious crimes (like the attempted theft of UN Security Council members’ credit card numbers).
So the ones with their hands on the tiller of this pirate-ship of state have the gall to claim that nationals and an organization outside of the United delusional States is "unpatriotic". What kind of drugs are these idiots on?
These idiots suffer from the disease of "Boobus Americanus." They are crippled with insufficient intelligence at birth and they further compound their stupidity by assiduously keeping themselves in a marginally educated state permitting at best a low level of functional literacy and the ability to keep up with football scores.
Ah!… Classic Mencken.
So let me get this straight. A foreign organisation with no weapons of any kind; who reject unlawful violence especially under International law; who have never been accused of being part of any unlawful international violence; who would ordinarily receive 1st Amendment protection in the US (all things being equal): are to be declared a "terrorist organisation"?
In the meantime, that same foreign organisation Wikileaks is supposedly "insufficiently patriotic"
Has anybody ever told these clowns that domestic law and patriotism basically cease at the *cough* border? Or as I suspect, does that line of drivel appeal to a certain political base?
(Sorry for the rhetorical questions.)
"Has anybody ever told these clowns that domestic law and patriotism basically cease at the *cough* border? Or as I suspect, does that line of drivel appeal to a certain political base? "
It may be rhetorical but it's a great question because honestly, most people in America really believe that everyone in the world has to obey American laws and we have universal jurisdiction over the entire planet.
indeed wikileaks is a terrorist group, after all i have never seen USG officials so terrified
How can Wikileaks personnel be patriotic whey they are not American? Assage is an Austrailian. It would be like expecting McCaskill et. al. to be patriotic to Germany, or China, or Mozambique.
Well… they ARE more patriotic to Israel. And now that I think about it, probably China too.
So now some American elected officials seem to think it is their job to outlaw the truth. These fools will need a fire hose to get the egg off their faces.
Go wiki go!
Soooooo, if WikiLeaks is declared a terrorist organization, does this mean we can expect the entire staff to be rounded up and sent to Guantanamo for holding and interrogation? Will we see a show trial for Assange on all the major channels? Does this mean that every ISP that doesn't block access to WikiLeaks will be charged as providing material aid to the enemy? When do the Predator strikes begin, and will we get to see them on the news, or will they be pay-per-view? Please, USG- grow up!
Assange published the documents, yes, but the USG shouldn't focus so much on him- they need to focus on three more important things: A) how did the documents become unsecure?, B) who turned them over to Assange and WL?, and C) who in the USG is going to take the fall for the damning information released?
I have to laugh when Washington is screaming for Assange's blood for outing them and their diplomatic shenanigans, some of which will no doubt serve to further lower the standing of the US in world opinion. The hypocrisy is deafening- indeed, we're being told we have to submit to porno-scanners and gaterapes and illegal eavesdropping on emails and phone calls and all sorts of government intrusion on our daily lives, and all the while we're being told, "It's for your own good- if you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear or hide." And so the wheel keeps turning and it looks like it's the USG's turn to squirm when it's own dirty laundry gets put on the street- but wait: if they weren't doing anything wrong, what do they have to fear or hide?
"Soooooo, if WikiLeaks is declared a terrorist organization, does this mean we can expect the entire staff to be rounded up and sent to Guantanamo for holding and interrogation?"
The ONLY thing protecting them from that is the US government's fear of worldwide public opinion.
A wounded predator can be more dangerous than normal. It is apparent that the USG has been wounded and its actions are now more and more brazen in its death throes.
At least they admit terrorist is an epithet and has no meaning
Senator McCaskill looks like a well-tended grave…
How can anyone impart to her the slightest credibility: an aged bleach blond courting Power with the Old Guard in DC.
All of these Power/money obsessed creeps on Capitol Hill have ONE thing in mind–their effin' c-a-r-e-e-r-s!
And yet they have the temerity–the unmitigated brass– to pontificate about 1) morality, 2) ethics, and 3) "responsibility". That one is Forwardlooking's FAVORITE psy-ops term–he fucks with the heads of the sheeple who don't know any better than to feel guilt ridden (about they know not what), watch TV, and remain Empire's–and, therefore, the world's–fools!
We DESERVE our heartaches! That's RIGHT! We got what we deserved. The world's assholes got what they deserved…
As Shelley implored:
'Rise like Lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number –
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you –
Ye are many – they are few.'
We (the working class) are MANY, and they (the investor class) are few. Quite.
Yet we continue to suck shit.
When we get tired of the taste of shit between our collective teeth (e.g., Lloyd Blankfein's feces), then maybe Shelley (and Chomsky, and Bakunin, and Kropotkin, etc.) will be seen as a REAL, ACTUAL, VIABLE OPTION.
