NATO spokesman Gen. Josef Blotz today insisted that the escalated air strikes across Afghanistan have “choked off” insurgent supply routes and lead to the insurgency receiving “fault ammunition and weapons through their supply channels.”
At the same time, Gen. Blotz conceded that the insurgents are finding ways to “cope” with this, including collecting taxes on farmers in the northern Kunduz Province. NATO forces have dramatically escalated the number of air strikes in recent months.
At the same time, three NATO fuel tankers were destroyed in Pakistan and in Afghanistan, several private contractors were killed trying to defend another NATO supply convoy. It seems that NATO is having major issues with its supply routes as well.
Yet NATO’s ability to cope is nowhere near so clear, and the 150,000 international occupation forces depend on massive supplies of war materiel through extremely dangerous routes through Pakistan into the landlocked country.
Earlier this month NATO’s supply route through Khyber was briefly halted, leading to the destruction of scores of fuel trucks. NATO’s solution to this was an unsuccessful effort to negotiate a secondary supply line through Russia, and in the near term all they seem to be doing is sending more and more trucks, hoping that enough get through to make up for the ones that get blown up in Pakistan.
150,000 soldiers on the ground, eh! International Occupation Forces! These 'forces' are mainly Americans and some from countries which America has bribed or threatened into becoming 'Allies'.
What does a nation have to do to become an Ally of the U.S.? Worship America as the world's greatest nation. Send soldiers to be killed. Buy American armaments. Allow America to dictate the military strategy. Shut your mouth about civilian casualties or the rape of women civilians. Tell the folks back home that the war is being won even when you know it isn't.
America's allies are few. I wonder why!

finding ways to “cope” with this, including collecting taxes on farmers A war-tax?! Isn't that the kind of thing McCain and co. thought was a conspiracy to choke our war…?…after all, the natives might get sick of it if it were properly itemized on a bill! If Afghanistan starts looking up, it might be due to forcing 'the enemy' to do what 'we' were to wussy to do: make it clear what the money is for!
The very idea of "disrupting the supply routes" of a guerrilla force is comical at best. Those pushing this line at the public believe we will swallow reports of this great victory unquestioned may sadly be right, the America public in general may be just so hopelessly misinformed and conceptually stunted as to buy that line. More dangerous is the possibility that the US military and political leadership might believe their own propaganda, this is recipe for utter disaster. What part of "the guerrilla swims like a fish in the sea of the people" don't they understand?
Started to write, but Rocky has it dead on.
The very notion of 'disrupting' insurgents 'supply routes' is ludicrous. It shows whichever propaganda warfare specialist who wrote this 'news story' doesn't have a clue about guerrilla warfare.
What this really tells you is that the propaganda warfare specialists wanted to write a story about a great victory. Probably has been on their calendar for months that they were going to write a story about big victories in Afghanistan 3 weeks before the elections.
But, there are no great victories to write about. Our massively increased and surged troops seem to be barely capable of holding onto their bases, and the much bally-hoo'd Kanduhar offensive that was supposed to be going on at this time before the election appears to have been canceled again.
So, the best they can come up with is this utter nonsense about disrupting rebel supply routes.
Taliban and Afghan resistance supply lines: down the street and around the corner
American supply lines : 10,000 miles through a hostile country and up a mountain range
And we're supposed to believe it's the Afghan's supply lines that are in danger? The fools doing this propaganda have no sense of irony, nor of how ridiculous they sound. But as Rocky said, many Americans will probably believe them.
Think: TET offensive
Sounds like recycled Ho Chi Minh trail press releases.
I hope the so-called guerrillas destroy all of the the supplies headed to the NATO ???? forces.
