In a clash that immediately brought comparisons to the September 2007 Basra drawdown, top US and British commanders are once again openly attacking one another in the press, this time over the Afghan Province of Helmand.
The comments have led a number of British officials to fire back, insisting that the situation in the part of Helmand in question has gotten progressively worse in the four months since the US took over operations in the area.
And while this only specifically relates to the northern half of the Helmand Province, it speaks to a problem that is true across virtually the entire nation. Nine years into the occupation the situation keeps worsening, and the frustration from the troops on the ground has them looking for scapegoats wherever they can find them.
This story seems to be gaining no traction in the UK media which remains of the opinion that the British army is the best in the world and that the Americans are belligerent know-nothings. There is no serious inquiry here into the war: instead we are told of "progress," and to "honour the "heroes".
manning should pull a rambo, show the useless brits what a real gi joe man can do. get the guy a head band and big knife he is ready.
Manning is sounding off to gain attention…he wants the bird/full colonel on his lapel. Ambitious son of a gun!
Th real tragedy is that it's in the press at all. If the Armies participating in the war can't even show a semblance of solidarity how can it possibly hope to come together to police the world. Doubtful the situation would be better (or if it even would have happened) if the UN controlled operations
