The Pentagon claims that a US helicopter raid near the Syrian city of Deir Ezzor on Thursday ended with the death of an Islamic State (ISIS) leader named Hamza al-Homsi, who detonated a suicide vest during the raid. The blast allegedly resulted in the injury of four US soldiers and a dog, all of whom are in stable condition.
As happens so often with ISIS “leaders” the US kills, Homsi’s profile seems to have grown substantially since his death. It’s suggested he ran the whole ISIS network in eastern Syria.
ISIS has shown an ability to replace slain leaders with little loss of effectiveness. CENTCOM did not reveal what motivated this raid, though it came the same day as a high profile ISIS raid further to the west.
CENTCOM reported that no other ISIS fighters were present at the Homsi raid, raising the question of why such an important leader was left totally unguarded. CENTCOM did claim a second ISIS figure was capturedin a totally unrelated raid against an assassination cell leader.
CENTCOM offered no further details on this second raid Friday, but later identified him as /batar, and suggested US troops faced resistance.. There were no ISIS comments on these incidents so far, which is unusual, though ISIS may simply be waiting to issue a statement.
More ISIS leaders killed? Vow! Old Obama trick.
Still acter all this time, our government has not figured out WHO is cunding and supplying this mysterious ISIS? Wbo? Arms, soldiers. shelter, transport, telecom or food do not come cheap _ and has to physically come from somewhere! So, any answers? Unfortunatelly I have a feeling it is me paying for it. I see it everyday in inflation and inability even with good health insurance to get dictors appointments without waiting months.
I would guess that the disenfranchised Sunnis of the upper Euphrates Valley are supported by their Sunni co-religionists, in particular the wealthy Sunnis of the Gulf: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE … just my guess.
Expanding on that guess, I would say that the Sunnis of the Gulf support the non-militant residents of the upper Euphrates Valley, and that they in turn support the militants.
The US has been employing Al Qaeda militants since Brzezinski’s war against the Russians in Afghanistan back in ’79. Despite Osama bin Laden’s attack on the United States on 9/11, and the laws that followed that event prohibiting anyone from supporting Al Qaeda terrorists, the US/CIA found it useful to employ them again in Syria starting in 2011. And now they’re being put on the payroll again and sent to Ukraine. Basically these are dirt poor Muslim young men you have no prospects and are consequently ready to fight for whoever will pay them. And that’s often the CIA/Neocons.
Bianca, please take good Care of yourself…!!!!!!! You are one of the brightest lights here at aw.c-m if not the brightest of all. Your knowledge seems to flow effortlessly from your brain to our mostly North American Euro history ignorant minds. Without your this space would be immeasurable less savvy and many of us would be left scratching our heads from the so often incomprehensible pattern of events that things like the Ukraine war serve to show. You keep at those doctors or maybe change your zip code if you can to a more favorable location for medical services.. We need you here. After losing Justin to a largely self inflicted and not altogether rational demise, let’s keep valuable explicators like you in top form.. All our love!!
I am doung good — thank you. I have a bad hip, and it is frustrating how ling one gets put off before getting surgery. And it seems now accross the board — same. Huge cutbacks in health care. It means nothing to have a good private insurance. It serms that health care provoders have neen receiving subsidies of various types. They must have lost subsidies and are drastically cutting back serives by restricting accesd to specialists. Services have changed drastically. Indurance has as the first priority protect profits, so all kinds of ibstacles have surfaced, unreasonably ling waiting times.
I see what is happening, As money is needed for war profiteering, it has to be cut from somewhere. Various subsidies and gifts to industries are easiest to cut — as it is only indirect cutting.
In France it is blatant. Retirements are to be delayed by two years — funny as West is paying Ukrainian retirements. retirement homes, orphanages, nursing homes, hospitals. welfare — with ovet 50% of population in it. We can also expect such sneaky indirect cuts in education. They are already hinting at messing around with Social Security and Medicare.
This is how wars are paid for. In additikn to neverending inflation.
What are out soldiers doing there, protecting the shipments of stolen Syrian oil?
