Two weeks ago, at the onset of the Ukraine War, Israeli officials said that the ongoing deconfliction with Russia over Syria will not be impacted by political differences over Ukraine.
Israel was critical of Russia’s invasion, and Russia’s been critical of Israeli strikes on Syria. So far, however, both sides are carefully avoiding connecting the two issues, and that appears unchanged.
Israeli FM Yair Lapid confirmed Israel remains on the US side on Ukraine, but that has to be coupled with considerations of how “vital” their interest is in Syria, which means not getting Russia mad enough to stop those regular Israeli attacks.
Russia’s silence on the matter so far likely represents an understanding that Israel isn’t doing anything with respect to Ukraine beyond parroting the US stance, and that this is not, ultimately, a threat to their interests.
“Israeli FM Yair Lapid confirmed Israel remains on the US side on Ukraine, but that has to be coupled with considerations of how “vital” their interest is in Syria, which means not getting Russia mad enough to stop those regular Israeli attacks.”
Translation: We can’t risk the $3.8 billion so we have to pretend to back the US in Ukraine.
It is the least they can do…
They get their money no matter what… Because the little Israel lives in the House…!
This story is not this simple. Israel’s regular bombinb Syria is of course NOT agression, and does not require such fuss.
I am rather shicked by the lack of insight. Sure, Rusdia is just letting Israel bomb! Seriously!
Russia is not that stupid to be provoked by Israel — the puppy that barks and. bites at master’s command.
Russia to be that stupid to allow US the buggest glilibal megaphone, of Russia attacking poor small Israel. And then. bully the region to be with US, turn the region
into a conflict zone again. And risk
Syria’s safety again,
Now, all if a sudden Israel is playing nice. Going to Moscow, angling for mediation, knowing full well Russia will never accept that. Then explaining to US, that the contacrs are for getting a sense where is Russia’s thinking.
None makes sense, Israel knows that US position has been weakened. That China is backing Russia to the hilt. That there was a consultation in the matter.
And that US needs Iran and Venezuela for oil, both will come at a political price. Israel needs Turkey to enable route for ts gas towards Europe. And Turkey can have a real fun with it. Is it carrying a message from US, or a little of all — while looking out for number one.
