US Says Will Hold Houthis Accountable for Abu Dhabi Attack

Monday’s Houthi strike on Abu Dhabi led the UAE to call for the US to put the Houthis back on the terrorist list. That hasn’t happened, but both the US and Britain are giving lip service to the idea.

The State Department vowed to hold the Houthis accountable, referring to the attacks as “terrorist attacks,” promising unwavering commitment to the UAE.

UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss similarly called the attacks terrorist in nature and condemned them in highest terms.

The Biden Administration removed the terrorist designation in February, both a reflection of the failing Yemen War, and because US humanitarian aid groups were afraid they would get punished for delivering food or medicine to Yemen. That remains a problem and may preclude a backtrack.
