Though they have admitted once again that they still haven’t actually got any proof that any such thing happened, the US State Department insisted today that “all options are on the table” with respect to retaliating against Syria over its alleged delivery of Scud missiles to Hezbollah.
Assistant Secretary Jeffrey Feltman says the State Department has “really, really serious concern” about the report, and said if Syria actually turns out to have done such a thing it would be a “provocative action.”
Israel made the accusation last week, but it has since been denied by both Syria and Lebanon’s governments. Israel has not provided any public evidence to support its claim, but Hezbollah has been rumored in the media to have been given some old, unusable Scuds at some point in the past.
Scud missiles would give the Lebanese militant group the ability to hit targets anywhere in Israel at a time when Israeli officials are openly talking of launching another invasion of southern Lebanon.
All options on the table AGAIN?
Assuming the Syrians had given Scuds to Hezbollah, what would that have to do with the US?
"Assuming the Syrians had given Scuds to Hezbollah, what would that have to do with the USi '? Lots and lot more interest. Doesn't take an expert to figure it out–Israel is actually the largest private USA funded military base run by Russians.
USrael
Israel has the USA by the dog collar. We threaten Syria – which has never threatened the USA in any way – at Israel's bidding. The ENTIRE REASON for the US war on Iraq was not for oil, it was for Israel.
Even if the info is true, through anything coming our of Israel is highly suspect, Israel admits to planning another attack on southern Lebanon. Israel has the most high tech air force, a brutal, toxic, mass of weapons, all courtesy of the US, but Hezbollah isn't allowed to defend their homes with some shitty old scuds.
The sickening display of threats from two superpowers against a tiny smattering of pathetic military hardware is more evidence who the true terrorists really are.
It's long been known that Hezbollah has the missile capability to hit Tel Aviv and other major cities in Israel – with or without 'scuds'.
Syria, Lebanon and any country that has been threatened with military action – or has been targeted by Israel in the past – has the right to procure weapons to defend it's nation and it's interests.
Israel is the problem – as usual….
I'm really glad Jeffrey Feltmen is on the job protecting the interests of the United States.
Israel, like the US, is overextended, weak, paranoid, isolated, and without the human or other material to maintain its present posture for very much longer.
The present "state" reminds a bit of the British in Kenya near the end, or perhaps the last days of Apartheid South Africa.
Bang or whimper?
Doesn't matter much either way.
It is a very mixed population with many different goals and with one small group of NAZI-like Right Wingers claiming a monopoly on policy, "realism", and jingo–again, very much like the US.
All options on the table — against the whole world!
Looks like another war for Israel……
Israel has the fourth largest army in the world. Israel has enough nuclear bombs to level the entire Middle East. Israel has repeatedly invaded Lebanon and has bombed Syria with impunity. Now, when Israeli aggression may cost them something, now they whine about scuds. If Israel is so concerned about its borders with Lebanon and Syria, then may be they should reach a peace treaty that is just and comprehensive with them. Sixty years of aggression and intimidation apparently dose not work, making peace just may be the answer.
Our political prostitutes are taking orders from the AIPAC, and trying to drag America to another war,so they can steal and loot more
IF USA IS DUMB ENOUGH TO FALL FOR IT THEN THEY DESERVE WHATEVER HELLISH FATE BEFALLS THEM. FIGHT ANOTHER WAR ON ISRAEL'S BEHALF WHERE THEY SEND NEITHER MEN NOR EQUIPMENT TO HELP. THEY CAN ONLY KILL DEFENSELESS CIVILIANS WOMEN KIDS AND OLD MEN IN GAZA / WEST BANK
LIE DOWN WITH DOGS DON'T BE SURPRISED IF YOU WAKE UP WITH FLEAS, AMERICA
If Israel says, "we have the right to defend ourselves", why can't Lebanon or Syria or Gaza defend themselves too?
Because of shipments of planes, rockets, bombs and other war material from the US to Israel, shouldn't Syria and Lebanon also have all their options on the table?
Sheesh!
