Two Wounded, Including Four-Year-Old Child, In Israeli Airstrike on South Lebanon

Attacks reported across Lebanon’s south overnight

Like most nights, Wednesday night saw Israeli forces carry out artillery strikes and airstrikes across southern Lebanon, with reports of strikes hitting multiple municipalities across the Tyre, Nabatieh, and Bint Jbeil Districts.

Those strikes included some casualties in the town of Haddatha, in Bint Jbeil, where an Israel airstrike wounded two civilians, one of them a four-year-old child, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Beit al-Sayyad was reportedly sprayed with machine gun fire, while artillery strikes were reported against both Haddatha and Baraachiit. The only confirmed casualties, however, came from the airstrike against Haddatha.

IDF officials have not issued any statements with respect to the overnight attacks, and indeed there seems to be an ongoing escalation over the course of the past week, which has seen multiple incidents including people killed during the olive harvest and many wounded along the Lebanon-Syrian border.

Defense Minister Israel Katz laid out threats yesterday for a much more substantial escalation, including increasing the “permanent” military occupation deeper into Lebanon and the expulsion of more than a million civilians from their homes.

Katz’s threats were presented as threats for Israeli action if Hezbollah joined an Iranian war against them, however, and the escalation that’s been ongoing all week this week seems to be totally independent of that threat, and without any narrative describing why it’s happening, or why Lebanese civilians and their homes seem to be the primary targets of the strikes.
