At Least Six Killed, Dozens Wounded in Lebanon as Israel Attacks Area Around Hospital in Tyre

One paramedic killed, at least 13 others wounded

The casualties among healthcare workers in Lebanon have continued to grow this weekend, with the IDF attacking the area around Hiram Hospital in the city of Tyre, causing “severe damage” to the hospital itself and wounding at least 13 paramedics in the district.

At least six people were killed and dozens wounded in various strikes across southern Lebanon, including at least one paramedic in the village of Jebchit, where another hospital was damaged. A hospital was similarly hit in Toul, where a commercial district was shelled.

The death toll from the weekend’s attacks is almost certain to rise, as substantial attacks on the town of Deir ez-Zahrani, which leveled residential buildings while the locals were sleeping. Many are believed to still be trapped beneath the wreckage of their homes, so the casualty figures there are still very preliminary.

Though Israeli officials made much of their ground troops advancing ever-deeper into Lebanon, fighting continues across southern Lebanon, and Hezbollah continues to launch drone strikes against Israeli targets.

An Israeli staff sergeant was reported killed overnight by a drone attack in southern Lebanon, and Israeli broadcaster N12 reported a drone struck the northern Israeli village of Beit Hillel, causing a fire and leading to four injuries, described as “mild to moderate.”

Hezbollah’s use of drones is meant to be the reason for the IDF pushing further north in the country, trying to remove Hezbollah from the immediate border area. Some have criticized the strategy, noting Israel’s expansion from 10 km to 12 km means relatively little for drones that are believed to have a range of as much as 30 km.
