Dozens of Israeli Strikes Reported in Southern Lebanon, Major Damage Reported

IDF claims attacks targeted Hezbollah ‘terror infrastructure’

The Israeli Army has carried out dozens of strikes across southern Lebanon on Sunday, after the IDF issued an evacuation order against the town of Kfar Hatta, north of the Litani River. The town was hit over 10 times within an hour, and multiple other sites across the south were attacked by Israel as well.

Lebanese media reported significant damage resulted in Kfar Hatta, and the IDF claimed that the attacks targeted underground Hezbollah weapons storage facilities, though they did not offer any evidence that such facilities actually existed.

Heavy attacks were reported in Mahmoudiyeh, Damshqiyah, Jbaa and Jezzine. Another strike was aimed at Tabna, but the missile in that case failed to detonate. Though a large amount of damage was reported, casualties have yet to be confirmed in any of the areas.

The IDF narrative is that all of these strikes targeted “terror infrastructure” of Hezbollah, and that their existence was a violation of the ceasefire, though they provided no evidence of the sites existing, and a number of these sites were north of the Litani River.

Last week, the Lebanese government confirmed that they had fully disarmed and dismantled Hezbollah sites south of the Litani River, as the ceasefire requires. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, insists this is “absolutely not enough.

Netanyahu claimed the ceasefire required full disarmament of Hezbollah across the entire country, though that seems to conflict with what’s been reported in the past. Israel’s Foreign Ministry claimed the disarmament was limited and Hezbollah infrastructure remained south of the Litani River as well, though once again, they provided no evidence that was actually the case.

Today’s attacks seem again to focus on areas north of the Litani River, and even then without evidence that what they’re hitting is actually Hezbollah facilities. Though Israel attacks areas south of the Litani River intermittently as well, and almost always claims it as something to do with Hezbollah, the evidence is generally lacking.
