Israeli Forces Raid Villages in Syria’s Quneitra, Set Up More Checkpoints

Troops raided homes in latest cross border violation

Backed by tanks and other armored vehicles, Israeli troops advanced into the Syrian village of Ofaniya and the town of al-Samadaniyeh, both in the Quneitra Governorate.

In al-Samadaniyeh, the troops remained in their position for hours before finally withdrawing elsewhere in the region. It is reported they “attempted to raid a farm” and that they established a checkpoint at al-Mushayrefah.

The troops in Ofaniya raided multiple homes in the area, searched through the buildings but finally withdrew as well. No report are available that anyone was detained or anything was found.

Israel invaded Syria in December, in the wake of the regime change in that country. Though the Israeli troops have tended not to stay inside the populated areas they’ve entered, they routinely search civilian homes and sometimes end up capturing people in the course of their operations.

The IDF only occasionally comments on their operations inside Syria, and indeed today was no exception, with both of the reported operations going totally without any official justification.

The Syrian government generally condemns the IDF operations, and it has reportedly been a topic of discussion in ongoing talks between Israel and Syria aimed at restoring the 1974 disengagement deal, which Israel has been violating for months.
