Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Washington on Sunday, where he is set to meet with President Trump and is expected to discuss the genocidal war on Gaza, Iran, and recently imposed US tariffs on Israel.
According to The Times of Israel, Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes in Gaza, headed to a meeting with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick upon his arrival in Washington.
Netanyahu is set to meet with President Trump and his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, on Monday. Ron Dermer, Netanyahu’s advisor for strategic affairs, will also attend.
Netanyahu flew to the US from Hungary, where he was welcomed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who announced Budapest would be withdrawing from the ICC during the visit.
Before departing Hungary, Netanyahu said he would speak with Trump about the “hostages, achieving victory in Gaza and the tariff regime that has been imposed on Israel.” Netanyahu’s office also said the two leaders would discuss “Israel-Turkey relations” amid tensions over Syria and the “Iranian threat.”
Netanyahu’s visit to the US comes after Trump threatened to bomb Iran if a deal isn’t reached on its nuclear program, even though US intelligence agencies have concluded that Iran isn’t building a nuclear weapon.
The last time Netanyahu visited the US was in February when Trump announced his plan for the US to “take over” the Gaza Strip. Trump also repeatedly called for the permanent removal of Palestinians from Gaza alongside Netanyahu, a goal the Israeli government is now actively pursuing.
