On Thursday, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi vowed the Yemeni group will coordinate with the “Axis of Resistance” in an attack on Israel in response to Israeli escalations in the region.
The axis includes Iran, Hezbollah, Shia militias that operate in Iraq and Syria, and the Houthis, who are officially known as Ansar Allah. Iran is vowing revenge for the Israeli killing of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and Hezbollah is warning it will escalate in response to the Israeli airstrike that killed one of its top military commanders in Beirut.
Al-Houthi said Ansar Allah would respond to the July 20 Israeli bombing of Yemen’s Red Sea port of Hodeidah, which killed six people and caused about $20 million in damage. Israel launched the strikes after a Houthi drone hit Tel Aviv and killed one person.
“The inevitable response to the Israeli aggression that targeted the fuel tanks in Hodeidah port is a must, and it is coming, God willing,” al-Houthi said, according to Al Mayadeen.
Al-Houthi said the delay in the response from the axis to the Israeli escalations was a tactical decision. “The decision to respond is a collective decision across the entire axis, and within each front independently,” he said.
The Houthi leader said there was a diplomatic push by the US, Europe, and some Arab countries to contain the response, but said Iran was undeterred, saying, “the matter touches upon the honor of the Islamic Republic by the killing of its guest in its capital.”
Al-Houthi also touted recent Houthi attacks on US assets in the region, including the downing of a US MQ-9 Reaper drone. The US continues to bomb Yemen and intercept Houthi missiles and drones on a near-daily basis.
The latest US strikes on Yemen targeted the Hodeidah province on Thursday. US Central Command claimed on Wednesday that it launched strikes in Yemen that destroyed two Houthi drones, a ground control station, and three anti-ship cruise missiles. The US bombing campaign has done nothing to stop Houthi attacks on shipping in the region and has only escalated the situation.
The US has acknowledged that the Houthis would stop their attacks if there were a ceasefire in Gaza. But the Biden administration has refused to put real pressure on Israel to agree to a ceasefire and continues to provide military aid and political support, emboldening Israeli escalations in the region.
The US-backed Saudi/UAE war against the Houthis from 2015-2022 involved heavy airstrikes and a blockade, and the Houthis only became a more capable fighting force during that time.
The war killed at least 377,000 people, with more than half dying of starvation and disease caused by the siege. A ceasefire between the Houthis and Saudis has held relatively well since April 2022, but new US sanctions are now blocking the implementation of a lasting peace deal.
The Houthis are the only people in the world who have stood up to the US, UK and Israel in support of the Palestinian resistance.
"Shkraan jzylaan" means "great thanks to you" in Arabic.
Agree, they are the only ones who actually do something, they put the Arab regimes to shame, especially the Saudi regime, decadence made flesh, and so nothing but admiration for the Houthi.
It is apparent to me that many Arab states are led by conniving leaders, cowards.
Yea, the stood up killing innocent sailors. Just a bunch of terrorists.
Well, it is a hopeful sign that all of the sudden you seem to be against killing innocents. I hope there is some principled kind of reasoning behind that and not be the transparently opportunistic rethoric that it now seems to be.
But of course these shipping companies deliberately took that risk with their employees. That is pretty criminal neglicence to put economic risks above that of the safety of personel. And perhaps they should have been taking a much more responsible stance by refusing to do business with or via Israel while it is carrying out a genocide in the first place.
Albert, you have a fine brain.
Which makes Israel what? Just a bunch of terrorists. Only on a scale never seen before. At least the Houthi's don't have snipers shooting little children in the heart and, for good measure, in the head. Only the special kind of terrorists, like the IDF, do that.
Dr. Perlmutter, M.D., Jewish doctor who volunteered to administer aid in Gaza said he was not ready for the horrors he witnessed. Children shot. Toddlers. Twice. In the head and in the chest. Dr. Perlmutter said that there is no way they were accidents, seeing as the IDF snipers are among the best in the world. What would compel a man to shoot children? Madness.
As if Israel hasn't killed tens of thousands of innocents, but you're fine with that.
Right, killer?
Still sour grapes over the u.s.s. cole?
Are you speaking of the Israeli attack on the U.S.S. Liberty?
I would like to know why Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia have weapons? Who is the enemy of Humanity in the Middle East? The Houthis attack military sites, stop weapons, without killing civilians, yet Israel has to SLAUGHTER 40,000 unarmed humans and still looking for hostages. Why can't Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia do more, to STOP Israel's Genocide?
Hi Gina,
You raise some good questions, for the matter…
This is a war of attrition, in a manner of speaking.
The assumption that these regimes – their respective populations is an entirely different story – care about the fate of Palestinians is false. These are not psychologically normal people. They care exclusively about their own wealth and grip on power. Their preoccuption is with the repression of their own populations and Israel is just a very useful instrument to maintain that. Expect these regimes to form an obstacle rather than assets to end the genocide, much less the occupation, even less than that an end to Jewish supremacism as the entire basis for statehood. These regimes will have to go down before there is any chance of peace.
They are all afraid that Israel will pull off the Samson Directive, launch nukes. President Kennedy tried, unsuccessfully, to get Ben-Gurion to not develop the bomb.
Egypt is a corrupt dictatorship. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait are corrupt absolute monarchies. Their weapons are to use against their own people, the Iranians and the Yemenis to prevent their regimes from being overthrown. They depend on the USA and Israel to protect them from Iran and the winds of change that would bring democracy to the middle East if these regimes did not how powerful armies to keep their people down. They pretend to support the Palestinians. But a liberated Palestine would threaten the existence of these authoritarian regimes.
Again, I do encourage folks to access Iran’s Press TV, now fully in English and they are doing an excellent job with the news. Well done!
i do not encourage people to read the bigoted news from a terrorist state but what do i know?
What do you call the news from the MSM in the U.S.? What we read and see at sites like this one, is confined pretty much to oblivion in the U.S. media. Iran has a right to have a skewed view of the U.S., being as it was the U.S., during the Eisenhower administration, that executed the coup against the elected leader of Iran in 1953. About 20 years later, the U.S., the "exceptional nation" committed a coup in Chile for Anaconda Copper. So, who has "bigoted" news flying around?
i never said anything about Operation Condor which I don’t support and I of course dont support our coup agains a peaceful Iran but those were 60 and 70 years ago!
And since then, we have been treating Iran with respect and dignity. Right?
Yes
Installing the brutal Shah. Supplying Iraq in the Iraq/Iran bloody war. 40+ years of sanctions that killed thousands of innocents. Shooting down a civilian airliner and refusing to apologize for doing so. Unilaterally dropping out of the JCPOA (the NPT on steroids) and installing even more brutal sanctions even though Iran was the only one abiding by what was agreed upon. Murdering their general that was in Iraq on a mission of peace. I guess our definition of being treated with "respect and dignity" differ. And if you want to bring up the hostages, that wouldn't have happened if the previous history hadn't happened.
That was a rhetorical device called “sarcasm”
Nothing.
More than you
No doubt Abdul-Malik al-Houthi will joint that axis of resistance. He may even join Ismail Haniyeh shortly.
Timmy playing the assassination card again knowing full well it won't mean a pinch of shit but make Israel less safe. But Timmy doesn't really care about them either. He just likes playing the role.
When will you join Haniyeh, Timmy?
Hopefully "bibi" beats him to it.
And soon!
There has not been an attempt, or it would be all over the news. Netanyahu, Smotrich, Ben-Gvir need to go. What if an IDF reservist, sickened by what he has done and seen, does the job? Stranger things have happened.
Well, I think Tim gets a little out of sorts a bit….
;-]
Still supporting genocide are we ?
Yes, this is why it hasn't happened yet. Such coordinated operations require planning and time. It could be days, weeks or even months before a major strike occurs – although, as Professor Marandi points out, waiting too long causes the connection between the motivating action and the retaliation to be disconnected. It took twelve days between the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate and the Iranian response. This time, the response will be greater, so take correspondingly more time to prepare.
Well, Russia is supplying Iran to create difficulty for a US attack. So, they’re preparing defences… and perhaps offences as well.
Russia may have provided S-400 missiles. Russia has already provided jamming electronics. Experts believe that Russia has not provided the S-500.
I’m surprised Russia hasn’t yet supplied nukes.
Waiting and anticipation is a kind of psychological war that Iran and the Resistance are winning now…!
One development that I believe Israel did not believe would happen, has happened. For the first time in 1400 years, Sunni and Shia have joined together in common bond. I have read that people in Arab countries are pretty p*ssed at their leaders for being cowardly. Certainly in Egypt. Egypt did nothing when the IDF took over the Philadelphia Corridor, in violation of the Abraham Accords, nor did Egypt do anything about the bombing of the Rafah opening. Sisi is really under fire.
So far the only Sunni member of the resistance is Hamas…!
