The US on Monday issued fresh sanctions against Iran meant to target the Islamic Republic’s oil and petrochemical sales to East Asia.
The new sanctions targeted three Chinese firms and one UAE firm accused of doing business with the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industry Commercial Co. (PGPICC), which the US Treasury Department says is one of Iran’s largest petrochemical brokers.
According to the Treasury Department, PGPICC facilitated the “sale of tens of millions of dollars worth of Iranian petroleum and petrochemical products from Iran to East Asia” through the firms that were hit with sanctions.
The sanctions are the latest sign that the Biden administration is not serious about reviving the Iran nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA. On Monday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken was asked if the US was ready to return to JCPOA, but he sidestepped the questions and put the responsibility on Iran.
The Biden administration has maintained a hardline position on Iran and refuses to lift non-nuclear-related sanctions or sanctions they claim are outside the scope of the economic benefits Iran was supposed to receive from the JCPOA.
The Treasury Department said that until the JCPOA is revived, the US will “continue to enforce sanctions on the illicit sale of Iranian petroleum and petrochemicals.”

The article title is wrong. These are not sanctions on Iran. No Iranian company is effected.
These are sanctions on non-Iranian companies.
So true. Bully boys at work.
Sign of increasing desparation by the Empire.
And we all know what happened to the Empire in the Star Wars movies…
Every sanctioned country needs to shut the door for American products, deal exclusively with Russia and others for their oil and other products ( potash, grain, etc).
I know that ain’t gonna happen but I like the way it sounds…
Iran has asked to join BRICS. (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa trade coalition) Algeria and Argentina are also interested. It’s a start.
I’m not wild about watching countries align themselves against the US. But our leaders have brought this upon us all by themselves.
They will suddenly find themselves propsering once they join BRICS. No more money for the middle man.
No one cares. If the specific Chinese companies cared they wouldn’t have done it.
Somebody needs to point out how ridiculous it is for the US government to be going after Chinese companies for doing business with an Iranian oil company. America has lost its mind. The rest of the world is not and won’t be going along with it.
All oil sales to Asian countries are in non-dollar currencies…! So it doesn’t have any affects in Iran at all…!
The bullying tactics being employed by Biden and Co. are going to come back and bite us in the a–…
We need a pro-active team to handle negotiations and to help implement the best deal we can, one that is safe and effective for all parties.
I still think that Biden is a tad too feeble to be occupying the White House…
I cannot help but feel that Israel has an invisible hand in this quagmire.
