Saudi Airstrikes Kill 80 Houthis in Yemen’s Maarib

Strikes span three provinces in central Yemen

Saudi Arabia reported a new round of airstrikes Sunday against the Houthis, claiming to have killed at least 80 “terrorist elements.” The attacks centered, as always, on Maarib, but also hit Jawf Province and Bayda Province.

All told, the claimed death toll against the Houthis is extremely common these days. The spreading into other provinces happens, but less often, and may reflect that the Houthis have nearly taken all of Maarib at this point.

The Saudis also reported 19 military vehicles destroyed in the strikes. In an almost unheard of addition, the pro-Saudi forces reported 14 loyalists killed in Maarib in the fighting.

The lack of toll for the pro-Saudi side is so common that in the past month some 3,000 Houthis are reported to have been killed, and this 14 would be almost the entire confirmed toll on the other side. Doubtless many more were killed, but no one makes a habit of offering those figures.
