Saudis Report 125 Houthis Killed in Maarib, Bayda

Over 3,000 killed since mid-October

Saudi Arabia has once again offered a daily death toll in their air war against Yemen’s Houthis, reporting 125 Houthis killed in 24 hours inĀ  either Maarib or Bayda provinces.

Airstrikes have centered on Maarib for months, and in escalations some 3,000 Houthis are estimated to have been killed since mid-October. Despite that, the Houthis have kept gaining ground.

Just to the south, Bayda saw a lot of spillover violence.from Maarib, as it too is contested. The Houthis hold parts of Bayda, and have a focus to reinforce this southern outpost while seeking central Maarib.

UN envoy Hans Grundberg is pushing for political dialogue in laying the groundwork for a peace process. How easy that will be is uncertain, though the war has been dragging on dangerously, and could take a serious effort to scale down.
