Israel Strikes Damascus Outskirts in Overnight Attack

Syria reports most missiles intercepted

Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, Israel carried out a series of airstrikes against the outskirts of Damascus. As is so often the case, Israel has not commented on the matter.

Syria’s state media reported that air defenses were activated during the attack, and many of the missiles were intercepted. It’s not clear what was being attacked, but there are reports of material damage, while as yet no casualties have been confirmed.

Previous Israeli strikes around Damascus were reportedly aimed at weapons convoys. Often, Israeli strikes target Shi’ite groups. Generally, Israeli media spins this as targeting Iran, though in practice it usually means Iraqis or Lebanese.

That no casualties were reported immediately does not mean none happened, as often we don’t get such figures for a day or two. Details on intended targets will likely emerge in time too.
