Deputy Governor Killed in Afghan Capital Bombing

Bomb attached to his vehicle

Deputy Governor Mahboobullah Mohebi was assassinated in the Afghan capital on Tuesday, when an unknown attacker attached a magnetic bomb to his vehicle. The blasted killed Mohebi, his secretary, and wounded two from his security team.

There has been no claim of responsibility, but IEDs are not uncommon in Afghanistan, and several groups may have been involved in the incident.

The Deputy Governor was reportedly heading to his office at the time of the attack with his secretary and security team. The government is talking of this as a “wave of assassinations” amid rising violence.

A second bombing using a similar device was reported in Ghor Province, and killed a deputy chief of the provincial council. The bomb detonated in Feroz Koh, killing the MP and wounding two guards.
