Faced with complaints about the deal from the Palestinians, UAE Foreign Minister Gargash said that the deal with Israel actually buys the Palestinians a lot of time before annexation, and that they should use that time to negotiate.
He rejected the idea that this was a betrayal of the Palestinians, but Gargash also emphasized hope for normalization with Israel “soon,” and expressed hope they could soon exchange cultural representatives.
The UAE had presented the deal as slowing annexation, while Israeli officials say they still intend to annex the West Bank at some point in the near future. It’s not clear if the deal mentions that one way or another.
It seems this will delay annexation, though with Netanyahu under pressure from settler groups, he’s likely to want to deliver on that promise quickly.
What a hypocrite.
Minister Gargash’s name is misspelled–correct spelling is GARBAGE.
Sure why not. Has he hearrd of Trump’s stea…I mean deal of the century? Has he heard of the the Jewish Nation State Law? Has he heard of Kushner? Does he know what “near future” means? Is he stupid?
He is not supposed hear any of these. As for the last question, he is expected to be one.
Do not be too harsh on them. Every time there is a financial crisis in the Western world , all countries that are co-dependent pay heavy price. And very few are this codependent as UAE. In London — big adverts scream EMIRATI. Big rollers go to play there — and transact business with Asia in a country that will assure 100% non-interference from the government. With their oil nearly depleted — all they can offer is a Disney of Arabia for rich with special taste for murky business. You can buy gold in ATM.
Now, with the protracted depression on tourism and high rollers are either strapped for cash — or not eager to fly Emirati sky, UAE must deal.
And the deal came that could not be refused. And located just across Iran at Straits of Hormuz, without any international waters separating the two.
Lebanon learned hard way what does a dependent banking system mean. Many will soon learn what does dependency on IMF mean.
Just the beginning.
