James Jeffrey, the US Ambassador for the Syrian War, has reported on Friday that Bashar Assad needs to be removed from office, and that US military options against him remain open.
Jeffrey was objecting in particular to reports that the UN had made a deal on a Syrian constitutional committee which would work on a legal framework for post-war Syria. The committee includes both pro-government officials and the opposition.
A negotiated settlement has been something the US has long opposed, as they’ve wanted the US to have a substantial say in how Syria will be organized after the war, with Assad and his allies forced out.
Jeffrey presented the US as opposed on the grounds that Syria is continuing to fight rebels in Idlib Province (primarily al-Qaeda). He said the US would not allow Syria to negotiate peace while continuing to fight rebels.
With the US also accusing Syria of another chemical weapons attack in May, albeit once again without evidence, there remains the possibility of the US just attacking Syria outright. Barring this, however, the US doesn’t really have a way to prevent the UN-brokered talks.
The US wages aggressive war on Syria for eight years. Syria fights back and defeats the US with help from its friends. Then the US says it’s unacceptable for Syria to continue to fight the jihadi filth we support.
It fills me with joy to know the US has such a close and friendly relationship with the scum of the earth. No wonder the world looks to the US for leadership.
These are the same Americans who openly oppose “realism” in foreign policy and war making. It is an alien ideology to acknowledge reality.
The “evidence” of “chemical weapons” consists of a series of false flags committed by western supported takfiris who use anything they can get their hands on; pesticides, chlorine, etc…typically loaded into rockets and mortar shells. It’s enough to make people feel sick given the right weather conditions and delivery method. The pesticides are particularly nasty since the so called “chemical weapons inspectors” typically don’t look/test for them.
Outright attacking Syria right now would be a historic blunder that would be nearly 100% guaranteed to start WWIII. Just occupying their oilfields is untenable enough.
This would not be happening if people had been jailed for the WMD lies about Iraq. This is what we get for excusing and enabling bloodthirsty war mongers.
Sure, as long as first Syria and their allies can require the US to chose between peace and war, and veto which US leaders and their regime allies can remain in power.
One day when the US empire dies its troops will flee the countries in which they illegally operate, just as they did from the rooftop of the US Embassy in Saigon in 1975, desperate to fly out in helicopters as Vietnamese troops closed in.
Fantastic! US has lost its mind a while ago, but now its soul as well. Some elites are prepared to fight to the end in order to protect Al-Qaeda pocket in Syria.
Any group there thar wanted to leave Al-Qaeda was welcomed by Turkey. Under Turkey protection these groups participated in Astana talks and their region is represented in constitutional committee.
What remained under Al-Qaeda banner — deserves Al-Qaeda fate. Why did Western governments invest so much into Al-Qaeda? British have the whole White Helmets theater production called White Helmets. And their Observatory for Human Rights one man show in Coventry.
It looks like the show must go on. Is this bluster meant to get some concessions from Russia and get into government one of our choice?
This game has been going on for so long , and obstruction of all peace too obvious and too brazen for such deals.
Very unfortunate that Saudi Arabia abandoned the cause by defunding the High Negotiation Committee set up by Hillary, and headquartered in Riyadh.
And too bad that some of those individuals found their way into negotiations under Turkey or even under Egypt auspices. They abandoned US for real patrons and real negotiating team.
It will be immensely illustrative if UN that sponsored Astana now finds itself blocked.

It’s amazing we actually say this shit out loud. I mean, really? A sovereign country doesn’t have the right to secure its own territory? I guess if a part of the US territory were being held by “rebels” we’d do nothing. And of course we’d have no problem with a foreign government telling us that Trump must go and they will have a say on how our country will be organized. God, we just suck.

An ambassador may be referred to as “embassador”, if he was once assigned a position, and has attained a certain rank, or acclaim. A policy mission has an “envoy”, a state is assigned an “embassador”. Confusing, not sure at all. In this case, Embassador (rank title) Jeffery has been appointed “envoy” to represent the US regarding the Syrian war.
Having lost the war in total blood soaked disaster, the criminal American hawks in their delusion now demand the surrender of the victor as a condition of “talks” about how the Americans will be given everything they can think to demand.
