Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has responded to recent reports of “secret” US contact with senior Venezuelan officials by saying that he has authorized such contact with the US for months, trying to resolve tensions.
The reports suggested that the US was seeking contacts with senior Maduro officials trying to assure them of safety if they facilitated a US-imposed regime change in the country, that would allow them to flee abroad.
US-backed opposition leader Juan Guaido said that Maduro’s comments proved that the government is disorganized and lies. It’s not clear he is claiming that the US-Venezuela talks are not happening, however.
The amount of US contact with the Venezuelan government is unclear since the US-endorsed regime change earlier this year. Despite US condemnation of the talks in Norway, it has since been revealed that the US participated, at least in part, seeking new elections in Venezuela.
Talks with the US. Yeah. Like that’s gonna help. The good old trustworthy US. “Talks”, as in “bend over”. The only thing that will help Venezuela in its defense against US aggression is the firing — if not indictment — of Bolton, Pompeo, and Abrams. Or the electoral removal of Trump.

The only thing that’ll help Venezuela in its defense against US aggression is the following – if not indictment of treason – of Bonkers Bolton, Pompous Pompeo and the evil Abrams. I urged DJT over a year ago to dump those 3 traitors and go on with his peacemaking agenda. What’s he afraid of? That trio?
If he truly wants to be re-elected next year, the first action he must take is to dump Bolton, Pompeo, and Abrams. The US public’s sick and tired of all those unending wars started by G. W. Bush and Barack Obama; so, DJT has no choice but to pull back on his rhetoric and allow Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro to call for free elections, without meddling on the USG’s part.

No, he’s not afraid of them. They’re implementing his agenda, which has nothing to do with “peacemaking.”
I have always hoped, Eileen, that Trump brought Bolton et al into his administration based on a political instinct to neutralize his Neocon adversaries by bringing them in close. Then, they would seem to have the power they craved, but could be neutered by subordination to Trump’s executive authority to be the one making the final decision. And he’s said as much on occasion. Now I’m waiting for him to fire the lot of them, nicely timed to his political advantage, in the run-up to 2020.
Whether Trump will or not is uncertain. But this is my red line. If they’re still in the administration come election day, he won’t be getting my vote.
