Saudi FM: Unfair for ‘Hysterical’ Media to Blame Saudis Over Khashoggi Murder

Says criticism should be withheld until investigation finishes

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir lashed out at the international community in general, and the western media in particular, for its “hysterical” reaction to Saudi Arabia’s murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The Saudis have already confirmed killing Khashoggi in a premeditated act.

Jubeir, however, says it is unfair for the world to assign blame to Saudi Arabia before the final Saudi investigation is complete. This is, again, in spite of Saudi Arabia having definitely been to blame for the murder.

The Saudi investigation appears to be open-ended at this point. Initially, they offered a preliminary report admitting that Khashoggi was killed in the consulate in Turkey, claiming Khashoggi had picked a fight with a Saudi kill-team.

When that report was mocked by many, mostly on the idea that Khashoggi had started a fight with 15 people at once, a secondary version was offered claiming they’d threatened to drug and kidnap him, then choked him to death.

Saudi officials are eager to keep trying to offer different versions of the murder until they find one that does the least damage to the kingdom’s international reputation, but having admitted in each version that they definitely killed Khashoggi, it’s hard to see how they’re going to escape blame outright.
