Chinese officials expressed outrage on Friday after it was announced that the US was imposing economic sanctions on a Chinese military agency and its direct for buying Russian fighter jets and air defense systems.
The US claims the Chinese Equipment Development Department was violating US sanctions by buying from the Russians, and that the new sanctions on the Chinese agency are “aimed at imposing costs on Russia.”
Chinese officials say this is an unreasonable move, and are demanding that the US immediately correct its mistake, warning that there will be consequences if they don’t reverse the sanctions. The State Department notes that the Chinese made “significant” purchases of Russian equipment.
Russian officials say they believe the US is using the sanctions primarily to try to squeeze out major competitors on the international arms market. Russia in particular has made a lot of successful sales in air defenses in recent years.
Whatever. China is not our friend. Make friends with Russia and N Korea.
Nation states do not have friends. Only interests. And those interests are not identical to the interests of the inhabitants of a given nation state, but usually are the interests of arms manufacturers and other corporations, as well as the politicians that they employ.
China is an ally of Russia and many other nations also have enough sense and judgment to buy Russian defense material because it is high quality.
LOL…
Russian
High quality
pick one.
AK-47 wikipedia:
“The AK-47, AK, or as it is officially known (Russian: Автома́т Кала́шникова, tr. Avtomát Kaláshnikova, lit. Kalashnikov’s Automatic Rifle), also known as the Kalashnikov, is a gas-operated, 7.62×39mm assault rifle, developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov”.
LOL are you retarded, your example is from over a HALF CENTURY! Is this your evidence of Russian high tech???
Check Russian March 1 announcement and the supersonic panic it produced in Congress and Pentagon. Underestimating a scientific power like Russia is a mistake. Russia has just withdrawn from US partnership in Lunar Space Gateway, and is joining China. And we cannot as of yet reproduce Russian heavy liftoff rocket engine R-180, sn engine that we continue buying even though Russia has many newer models they sre not selling to us. Every heavy military launch up until now when Atlantis rocket is required — military used R-180.
Let’s be serious and not fall for charlatains in military industry selling us fancy movie pictures, but unable to produce. Liok only at Musk and his waste of taxpayers’ billions, and in three years unable to copy, steal or reproduce this aging Russian engine capability. Fancy DARPA pictures of fancy weapons are just that —puctures. Their MIRV reentry individually controlled shiny picture has been made real by Russian advanced MIRV at 20 Mach, and new allioys that can protect control mechanism even in semi-plasma state.
I just do not like hubris, clown mentality and fake braggadocio if our military industrial cartel.
A little reality check on the part of us, the taxpayers, would go a long way to SOBER UP the establishment and stop draining our trasury, or better, reduce amount of borrowing in taxpayers name.
Russia also excels in superior weapon performance, including the Kinzhal hypersonic missile. This missile is 26 ft. long, can accelerate to a speed of Mach 10 (7,500 mph), and executes evasive maneuvers along its flight trajectory.
…from tap:
Russia has other top performers. So naturally the US fears the spread of Russian weaponry.
> Sarmat nuclear powered ICBM
> Kinzhal hypersonic missile, aircraft launched
> Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle, Sarmat launched
> Nuclear powered underwater drone – Poseidon
> Nuclear powered cruise missile –Burevestnik
> Combat Laser –Peresvet
> plus the S-400 missile defense system that China is buying, which has been called a “game-changer.”
I remember Putin’s speech on March 1 this year and the scorn of some commentators (“boasting”by Putin) but I am sure that Pentagon and UK/EU people with actual knowledge detected the probable real quality of the defense described. Putin tends not to lie!
I’d like to see China respond by sanctioning their trading partners for buying US arms. That would be an interesting tit-for-tat.
What makes this even more offensive is how utterly arbitrary and selective this punishment is. “Russia disclosed that it was selling Saudi Arabia its S-400 air defense system… Over those years, the Pentagon approved $9.2 billion in waivers to allies, mostly from the Middle East, on the rationale of preventing lost sales.”
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-21/saudis-praised-by-trump-as-arms-buyers-won-a-big-u-s-discount
Attacking your neighbors to select their leader and creating a human rights disaster? You deserve a discount. Trading with a nation we claim without evidence meddled in our election? Time for sanctions!
LOL they mad.
So rosemerry, in a comment below, raised a very important factor concerned with this issue, and that is that the US doesn’t want China to have Russia weapons because they are superior to US ones, and effective against US offensive weapons, and that puts all the talk about the US attacking China and/or Russia (as well as some other countries) in the wastebasket where it belongs.
China, as rosemerry said, is buying Russian weapons because they are superior. The S-400 missile defense system that China is buying, and that other countries (India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey) want, has been called a “game-changer.” Couple this with China-developed weapon systems like the DF-21 carrier-killer missile, the fastest missile in the world, and the capabilities of US enemies exceeds those of the US, especially in the major US enemy China, and especially on defense.
The real situation in the world balance of power then does not conform to all the Pentagon propaganda that we are fed about the world’s finest military, especially when other countries are acting defensively and not offensively. Other countries out-gun the US! And considering that the Pentagon spends as much money on useless weapons (looking at you F-35) and consultants and kick-backs as the rest of the world combined, most of those hundreds of billions of dollars have been wasted. (But we knew that.)
So now the cat is out of the bag, the whistle has been blown, the siren has resonated, and we know that the US fears Russian weapons (as it should). Now the US can focus on national defense instead of on fruitless attacks on other countries.
Nailed it
Thanks, rosemerry set me to it. These aren’t just “Russian weapons.” All weapons aren’t the same. These are superior Russian weapons!
