With US officials issuing statements threatening to attack Syria if chemical weapons are used in the invasion of rebel-held Idlib Province, Russian officials are increasingly concerned that exactly such a pretext for war is to be staged.
Russia issued a statement Saturday claiming that rebel groups, with the help of British special services, are preparing to stage a “false flag” chemical attack inside Idlib, something that they can blame on the Syrian government so the US has an excuse to attack.
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported eight chlorine tanks were recently delivered to Jisr al-Shughur, a town in Idlib, and then later taken to a nearby village to “stage” a chlorine attack. Claims of chlorine attacks are common among rebels, and in the past, reports of a chlorine gas release can quickly grow into wild speculation, without any evidence, of advanced nerve agents being used.
In the past, the US and Britain have required very little evidence with respect to such attacks, launching strikes before any investigation can take place. Eight chlorine tanks would likely be more than enough for such an attack.
I’m sure the White Helmets are once again in training for their parts in this upcoming melodrama. If you remember the last false-flag gas attack in Douma, they were hustling starving kids out of bomb shelters, giving them candy bars if they would submit to being hosed down on camera. What a B-grade production that was. Looks like no Oscar for them this year, folks.
Even if the US and UK were to suddenly develop scruples strong enough to hold back their long-standing and clear strategic ambitions of overthrowing Syrias government and thus degrading Russia’s ability to project power in the Middle East, the Saudi royals and their jihadist rebels in Syria have consistently demonstrated they won’t let little things like lies and killing the innocent get in the way of their ambitions. We should do whatever we can to undermine the narrative when the press reports on the staged incident with a straight face and few questions.
Still ANOTHER false flag attempt tp frame Assad and Syria? Geez Louise! This tells me AT LEAST two things right off the bat-
1) the anti-Syria coalition doesn’t think much of the intelligence and awareness of the American population and
2) if the first two “chemical attacks” were proven beyond a doubt they were fake, why would a third one succeed, unless, of course, all the facts and real information will be ignored and the powers-that-be will push the war button regardless of the authenticity of their case!
A question stays nestled in my head- if chemical attacks are so monstrous as to call for immediate bombing of a supposed violator(including thousands of innocent defenseless civilians!) then why shouldn’t a LIE(false flag) also be punishable by some severe measure? It is a double standard world where the REAL criminals are disguised as the international police!
I wouldn’t be too harsh on the American population, given that NO major media outlet in the US will breathe a word about “false flag.” Instead it will be fake news, Syria did it again.
Indeed… but I think the media are still sore from the lies that got us into the Iraq war, so while de-facto cheerleading for war is fine by them, being caught spreading outright official lies again is embarrassment they will try to avoid. So there can be some nuance about how the media will act, especially with us loudly raising the tough questions they would rather not ask.
This op has been completely blown, yet it seems as if there’s still momentum to go through with it anyway. Even the New York Times ran a small article a few days ago citing the Russian MOD report. I think they’re betting on Russia not doing anything to stop them if they do carry it out and escalate back to more cruise missile strikes.
