The Chinese Foreign Ministry has issued a statement criticizing President Trump’s decision to cancel Mike Pompeo’s trip to North Korea, and has statement blaming China for the move. They called it an “irresponsible” claim contrary to basic facts.
On Friday, President Trump cancelled Pompeo’s planned visit to North Korea, citing lack of progress on North Korea. He further claimed that he believed China was deliberately refusing to help because of the ongoing trade dispute with the US.
The Foreign Ministry statement said that US should “show more sincerity and flexibility, instead of being capricious and put the blame on others.” White House officials have offered no comments on the statement.
President Trump did, however, say that Pompeo would be able to visit North Korea after the China trade dispute is resolved, predicting that this would happen “in the near future.” The major US-China trade dispute has been ongoing for months, and there has been no public sign that a deal is close.
Does anyone seriously believe Kim will just disable his nukes and weapons overnight? This is a process that could take ten or fifteen years. The first step is ending hostilities and working our some type of friendlier relationship. Kim would be a fool to lay down his weaponry. The USA’s words and guarantees are meaningless. About as legitimate as its Indian Treaties.
