White House officials today are confirming reports from earlier this week that they are withholding details about the Iran nuclear talks from Israel, saying they believe Israel has been leaking fragments of that information to try to sabotage the talks.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest says that Israel has been deliberately “cherry-picking specific pieces of information and using them out of context” to try to put the US in a bad light in the negotiations.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed outrage at the US withholding details of the talks from him, saying it proves the negotiations are bad for Israel.
It should not be surprising, however, as Netanyahu openly said earlier this month that he intended to do everything in his power to sabotage the Iran talks. In that context, it would be reckless for the US to keep giving him ammunition to use.
Always a good thing when someone at the USG is being transparent and truthful. Too bad it only happens occasionally.
It would be more truthful to say that cherry-picking and using information out of context sums up every foreign event analysis which isn't a lie to begin with, coming out of Israel for the last decades. Perhaps this statement might be a first step in realizing the problem, only to be hindered by the realization their own US policy is normally just as bad. Faults are easier spotted in the mirror but at least someone is looking!
What would be the connection between the neocons who insisted on war with Iraq and the Israelis? You had a combination of Bush supporters in the oil industry and strange bedfellows who were ex-leftists who had "seen the light" and become warmongering neocons. Saddam had (whether true or not) sent SCUDS to Israel – but I never believe this kind of thing so readily anymore, do you? So that made him an enemy of Israel at a very "existential" level. But dealing with him seems to have been part of a grander strategy to "secure the realm" in the new not very American century.
The US constitution was like the paper the contractors put on the floor when they are remodeling. It's not in good shape lately.
I'd vote to withhold everything from Israel. I will also not be surprised when one of Israels 5th columnists in Congress jumps the shark and passes the information to them despite the Administrations directive to not. And I also won't be surprised when said Congresscritter doesn't suffer the consequences of aiding and abetting a foreign government over their own.
Why, oh why, is this man even allowed to enter this country?
The dirt this so-called "ally" probably has on all carefully vetted and approved US officials must be astounding.
I can see the manila envelopes slipped under their doors anonymously, containing pictures of indiscretions at parties, on vacations with people other than their spouses, that sort of thing.
And with NSA spying, so much the easier.
It was only a matter of time before one of the tribe's leaders became so filled with pushy hubris that something like this happened.
Question is, which traitor or traitors are supplying Israel with the information and he context for them to use? The USA is filled with traitors.
all intelligence from any country is distorted to suit the issuer
Why is Israel even considered in nuclear talks with Iran? If Israel wants the credentials to have a place at the table, Israel can sign on to the same control and inspection protocols it is demanding of Iran. If you're not on the team, you can't play in the game- it really is that simple.
On the other hand, if Iran is such an 'existential threat' to Israel, why isn't Israel as a whole foaming at the mouth to get mobilized and go to war? Israelis had no problem initiating a 'pre-emptive' strike that started the Six-Day War way back when, why are they so afraid to do the same now when nuclear weapons are at stake? Israel had no problem attacking Iraq when it struck the nuclear site at Osirak- what's stopping them now with Iran?
When you shout 'existential threat' that usually means imminent danger, but when you don't actually DO anything about it you kinda just end up looking stupid.
I believe that Israel should not be a part of any nuclear matter until they sign the treaty. How dare they try to tell others what to do when they lie by their silence. The world is a dangerous place and lies do not help. BTW If Iran needs to be bombed then I am all for Israel doing it and if it goes badly they can always ask fo rhelp from the people of Gaza.
