With Defense Ministry officials saying that they believe the US may soon “fast-forward” plans to attack Iran, Britain’s military is stepping up its own preparations for such an attack under the assumption that they will join in on the war.
The planning is based on expectations that next week’s report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be a “game changer” and will convince President Obama to launch another massive war.
It also comes just a day after reports in the Israeli press that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is hoping to convince the rest of his cabinet to launch a unilateral attack on Iran before winter on the argument that an autumn war would be much more convenient.
Though Netanyahu seems to be gaining some ground, there are a number of Israeli cabinet members who say it is their preference to convince the US to start the war instead. Though threats of an impending war against Iran have been coming off and on for over a decade, it seems the Obama Administration’s preference not to see Israel launch a disastrous unilateral war could convince them that the US should start its own disastrous unilateral war instead.
Has anyone told Putin… One would expect "them" to get a green light from the ONE person who could rain on their party…. WMDs……………………. Is "Great Britian" ready to put London at risk for…..?????!!!!!! For the UK military to declare they are preparing to support a US attack on Iran for the sole benefit of Israel is outrageous. Let’s not exaggerate here! The Guardian article, which may well just be the military testing the water, talks of “targeted missile strikes at some key Iranian facilities”, not “another massive war”. That could well mean no more than a few strikes using Diego Garcia. Also the plans involved are “contingency” plans. Military forces always have contingency plans for everything. I’m sure the British even have contingency plans for attacking the US. And vice versa! Moreover, “Barack Obama has no wish to embark on a new and provocative military venture before next November's presidential election”. The warmongering is (as usual!) coming from the Israelis. There is thus no reason whatsoever to envisage a ground war like Iraq or Afghanistan, or even widespread air strikes as in Libya.

This could in part be a way for the British MIC to try a little push back against that problem — no doubt with the approval of UK higher-ups — all the while satisfying the ongoing need to suck up to the Americans and Israelis by helping harass the Iranians, keep them off balance.
