Fighting continued apace in western Libya today, with reports that Gadhafi forces launched a counter-offensive around the disputed city of Zlitan, killing seven rebel troops and wounding 65 others. The city was recently sieged by rebels, albeit unsuccessfully.
The latest counter-offensive sparked defiant comments from Moammar Gadhafi’s son Saif al-Islam Gadhafi, who claimed that he was no longer interested in a ceasefire, and that “the fighting will continue until all of Libya is liberated.”
Saif’s comments seem to run afoul of repeated statements from the regime, which has been insisting for months that they don’t believe a military offensive will end the war and that they a negotiated settlement. It has so far been the rebels who have rejected the ceasefire.
But the rebels’ cohension appears to be weakening, particularly after the death of rebel military commander Gen. Abdel Fatah Younus, who was killed by other rebel troops after being arrested as a Gadhafi collaborator. Members of Gen. Younus’ family have angrily denied the charges and demanded that the rebel council move against his killers. Today they added that they were growing impatient and might soon have their tribesmen take revenge together, adding another front to an increasingly complicated fight.

I regard this as war mongering propaganda, since the main line always was DEMANDING (!) ceasefire and elections under supervisision of UN and AU. Because they know that (should Gaddafi want at all to be a canditate) especially now where fear of separation of Libya Gaddafi would get a big majority in elections. Of course this information never was reported in the warmongering western media – and even not here in antiwar.
So I can only interpret this as a tactical decision for the specific moment but nor as a general statement. Be aware knowing only false information and being totally uninformed about all things of importance for a right understanding of the situation in Libya. The opposite of what you know and believe about the libyan situation will come closer to that what may be the truth.
What to conclude from this article? Are the Gaddafis feeling confident after the death of "Gen." Younes.. and perhaps it's posturing to add pressure on everyone… Bargaining…?? I'm sure the deals are being made daily… I agree with edgar that there is waaay more misinformation than truth… Alex Jones had a man on the ground in Lybia…and a very eminent one ..Webster Griffin Tarpley… to tell the anti-NWO side of the conflict… at http://www.prisonplanet.com/ but I don't see any of Tarpley's reports up there right now…
This article in German http://hinter-der-fichte.blogspot.com/2011/08/kat…
refering to a REUTERS report + additional video say that the current massive fights in BENGHAZI (BENGASI) and that quatar military is involved, are totally censored – this seems to by valid for most if not all German mainstream media – of course also as German I can not check ANY source.
Since also antiwar.com does censor my submissions to them, I suggest using the daily news website <a href="http://www.net-news-global.de” target=”_blank”>www.net-news-global.de at least the most libyan articles are in English.
Moderator’s note: No, Edgar, Antiwar.com doesn’t censor you. You’re free to say anything you like. If you’re using OUR microphone to do it, there are conditions, and one of them is that we’re not your servants — when something of yours gets caught by IntenseDebate’s moderation filters, we get to it when we get to it, not when you snap your fingers – TLK
thanks for your answer Mr.Moderator – with censoring I actually meant submissions of links to important articles of other sources on the startpage – not my opinion here in thediscussion field.
Since about 6 submissions, which I of course regarded as important and reliable were – from what I saw not taken. It gave me an impression that the much stronger anti-Gaddafi-Propaganda or the fact that more US people believe in it, your editors were not accepting articles or even videos that proof a fact by viewing e.g. a youtube link-video that shows about 1.5 millions of Gaddafi-supporter in Tripoli. Millions are censored, but any gun-fireing group of five rebels are allowed to show HOW INTENSE the "big revolution" is in Libya.
ALSO a video of Gaddafis son stateing that the want ceasefire and UN-*AU-SUPERVISED ELECTIONS was not accepted – how does this fit to showing or claiming in an article that 10 or 50 trebels want to kill a valued man without political post, Gaddafi. Is democracy made by guns of a few criminals from foreign countries +NATO BOMBERS or by elections???
Sorry – I AM disappointed from antiwar. But I understand well, first, it is your mic, and 2nd an audience filled up with lies will regard the truth as not only strange, but as a lie and offense. I know this well. It is your decision to judge how much truth your readers accept and if you want to fullfill their want to be served with lies that makes the good and bad theater piece smoothly.
When you find this war good – consider listen to a former CIA officers opinon to tis war:
