News of the clash on the Korean Peninsula sent stock markets plummeting the world over and led a number of officials to try to defuse the escalating tensions as South Korea threatens “massive retaliation” that could spark a huge war.
US officials, on the other hand, spent much of their time promising to get involved in the prospective war, with a number of top military officials promising to commit US forces to the defense of South Korea should the nation decide to start a war over what began as an incident along the disputed sea border.
Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Schwartz says the South Korean Air Force seems to have things in hand for the moment but said the US was ready to “pitch in” should they look to launch more attacks beyond the one hour overnight clash.
While officially the US is said to be “considering” its response, it seems the official policy is actually to accept whatever the South Korean government decides regardless of any potentially harmful effects on the US or the 28,000 US troops deployed in the Korean Peninsula.
If N.Korea didn't have nuclear bombs Dear Leader from Washington DC would have ordered the attack already.
As I mentioned on the other post I find it bizarre that South Korea is unable or unwilling to do its "simulation" of an attack on North Korea anywhere else but right at its neighbors doorstep.
Getting involved in this Korean conflict could prove to be incredibly damning to the United States. We are already fighting a war. Let the Koreans handle their own business. We need to quit meddling in other nations affairs.
I Agree 100%.
the question is not if the us will join the war on behalf of the south, that answer was never in doubt.but will china join on behalf of the north.
The 28,000 guinea pigs we have stationed there ensures our participation. Keep the lovable troops in harms way and any resulting shock and awe will be acceptable.
Not acceptable to me sir. I wouldn't sacrifice one single American soldier for the whole Korean peninsula.
hmmm, best for the US to keep its nose out of the area.
I don't know how accurate is the article below (if at all) but it's best not to mess with NK
North Korea's War Strategy of Massive Retaliations against US Attacks
"North Korea has not only the military power but also the political will to wage total war against the United States."
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article3…
Any INFORMED comments on the article?
So the US is willing to "pitch in". It would be so hilarious if we weren't talking about millions of innocent civilians. As for the military, I don't give a shit since they are so adept at making war and trained to assassinate wholesale.
Why do we feel the need to get involved in EVERY conflict (let alone arming both sides of the conflict)? Like Afghanistan, this conflict is NOT in our national interest. For years, the South Korean public has wanted us out of their country- now that the North is saber rattling (again), we are suddenly sending a carrier group. If we keep doing this, the North Koreans are crazy enough to take a shot at us and then it's on (again). I'm tired of the constant wars (Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran?, Yemen?, Korea?).
