In news that even the nation’s state media was linking clearly with last week’s IAEA resolution, Iran’s cabinet approved a plan calling for the construction of 10 new uranium enrichment sites, each roughly on par with the existing Natanz site.
The US reacted with predictable outrage, condemning the move as “another serious violation of Iran’s clear obligations.” The US pressed forward with the IAEA vote as a first step toward new sanctions against Iran.
Ironically, however, the Iranian announcement seems to have conformed not only with Iran’s obligations under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, but also with the subsidiary agreement that the international community is constantly demanding Iran follow, even though they have never ratified them.
The IAEA resolution was ostensibly the result of Iran declaring the Qom facility in September, six months before the addition of nuclear material as required under the NPT. Western officials insisted Iran should’ve declared the site before construction began.
But now Iran has done exactly that, declared 10 new sites well before construction is actually beginning, and Western nations are using this “act of defiance” as proof that they need to crack down even further against Iran.
Iranian parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani slammed the IAEA over the policies, and said if they continued they might limit cooperation with the atomic body in the future. Such a threat is likely an empty one at the moment, as it would almost certainly provoke a massive international response, but if the West continues to move against Iran to punish them for things that were perfectly legal within the NPT, the nation may eventually see little point with continuing with a legal system so clearly stacked against them.
That's what america wants you to do iran. They WANT you to withdraw from IAEA inspections. You can't deal with psychotic people like the zionists and american puppets. Iran was willing to negotiate and the americans FAKED like they wanted to negotiate. It was IRAN that came up with the proposal to send 70 percent of it's nuclear arsenal to russia. That was just a bargaining chip. That's what you do in negotiations. You haggle. You deal. The Americans need to ARREST people like howard berman, chris dodd, nancy pelosi, bill richardson, hilary clinton etc.
Amen to this. Especially the arrest part, and I would add emphatically: SHERMAN, the douche bag, Emanuel, Waxman, Harman, Israel, Bayh, McCain, Kyl — basically the vast majority of the US Congress / Knesset, all of whom put Israel's interests, no matter how suicidal, above that of the people they were elected to represent.
I will never believe that Iraq was about oil, given the evidence, and which countries the oil/ reconstruction contracts that are being awarded (not US companies). Iraq was about Israel.
Iran is very clearly about Israel and many Americans now know it, but not enough. Talk to your neighbors, co-workers, familly and friends and direct them to antiwar.com. Also InformationClearinghouse.info, another great antiwar site.
The only way we cans stop WW III is by educating our fellow Americans, but we have to do it at warp speed.
By the way, this article which is linked to in Antiwar.com is a complete falsity:

The legislation never even mentions "currents" which the Associated Press has translated into "militants". That is typical Western media propaganda. The media in the West is clearly part of the state. One cannot drive a hair between them. The Iranian legislation is a response to the American Congress allocating 50 million dollars to anti Iranian groups, through the Pentagon budget. The Iranian legislation clearly states that the money is going to be used to expose violations of human rights and international law by America, Israel, UK and the the rest of the Western countries who operate under the guise of supporting human rights and so forth.
keith:
That is basically the idea. However, the sooner Iran quits the NPT altogether, the better. The IAEA has declared in 21 consecutive declarations that there is sign of diversion of nuclear material or activity towards military purposes in Iran. Yet, the board of governors keeps letting off bad smells. Iran should quit the NPT immediately. Unfortunately the courage to do so is nonexistent in Iran, at the moment. As for American plans, America has no plans. It has lost its capability to come up with any plan a long time ago.
Correction:

When I read the headline of this story I had to chuckle. This act of so-called "defiance" by Iran is clearly intended to get at their Western and zionist tormentors, not to mention to show up their hypocrisy as Jason Ditz so succinctly pointed out. How to respond to a bunch of arrogant, unreasoning warmongers who are clearly backing you into a corner and offering no way out? Or perhaps it's more a message aimed at China and Russia, those fair-weather friends who are feigning outrage at Iran right now, but who desire strong trade relations not to mention all that oil Iran's got.
Iran and it's Patriots have a duty and OBLIGATION to DEFEND their independence from Nazi scum!
I advise all commenters to take a deep breath and stay calm. The Iranians are behaving themselves admirably — but more to the point, judiciously — in the face of constant threats from nations with both a capability and history of extreme violence. The pointedly LAWFUL and non-bellicose response of the Iranian leadership is almost "showy" in its thoughtfulness, and exemplifies rational conduct, in stark contrast to the western propaganda "smear" attempting to characterize the Iranian leadership as vicious madmen — "mad mullahs", Islamic extremists, theocratic tyrants, etc.
The Russians and Chinese are behaving with caution, but smartly — not antagonizing the hegemon, but cooperating only so far — allowing the US to bankrupt and exhaust itself, which clearly serves their own and the rest of the world's interests.
Wait for the delivery of the S-300 Russian anti-aircraft missile systems, probably just after Obama commits to the Afghan escalation, and then you will know that the game is over. Israel will be counter-balanced and the possibility will emerge for a gradual — and hopefully peaceful — transformation of the Mideast
Or not.
Well spoken, Jeff. It's a rather unsettling thought to realize the irrationality is just as much – if not more – ours. However, bankrupt nations are not known to just disappear with the tales between the legs. They have the tendency to indulge themselves more and more with bigger fantasies and self-destructive grand schemes. The price to learn "how long how wrong" might be too high to pay for too many.
So does every American, Canadian, Brit, Frenchman, Jew, etc.
ZIonism is a disease that has taken root in Western democracy. And it has to stop….
