During the Warsaw anti-Iran summit on Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence angrily lashed out at European nations, accusing them of “undermining” the United States’ efforts to crack down on Iran.
He spent the bulk of his speech demanding that the European Union unconditionally withdraw from the P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran, He went on to insist that world peace and freedom depends on collapsing the nuclear deal.
EU officials have already rejected US demands to dishonor the treaty,
which the US did last year. Though the US continues to rant and rave
about the deal, the IAEA has continued to affirm that Iran is complying
with the terms.
With broad complaints about the deal apparently not enough, Pence also
declared Iran to be plotting a “new Holocaust,” and that this would lead
to a rift between Europe and the United States.
Pence is a certified psychopath..how this utter xenophobe climbed the latter of political mendacity is shocking. Lets hope that the world at large fights the terrorist MO of the Trump cabal. Sickening…
Pence and Pompeo are the mouthpieces of Trump.
Pence wants to be “raptured” in a nuclear war.
He is preparing for his 72 virgins without any consequences.
Such an abuse of the Holocaust ought to offend. It is however par for the course to threaten comparisons to it even while declaring it unique and without comparison.
The US has gone totally mad…once again they unlawful brake a treaty, put unlawful sanctions on Iran, threatens to sanction anyone who trades with Iran and demands it`s allies to dishonor the treaty…..and no reaction from the so called progressive in the US.
Here’s a reaction from this progressive: it sucks that the US is threatening Iran and dishonoring the agreement we entered into. What exactly do you want me to do about it, and is that any different from other factions? It’s interesting that AIPAC gives so much more to democrats… perhaps they feel republicans can be counted on to do Israel’s bidding regardless.
AIPAC doesn’t contribute to candidates. What it does is steer donations from its supporters to candidates who fall in line with its policy lobbying.
Why support Democrats as much as, or more than, Republicans? Simple: A good lobby doesn’t want to have one party in its pocket and the other opposed to it. It wants to control BOTH sides of the aisle so that there’s not even a conversation about whether or not its policy goals are good ones.
“Bipartisanship” is just shorthand for “we bought both sides.”
They’re among the best at what they do. So good that they don’t even get hassled for not registering under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. So good that Congress invites the leader of a foreign power to come make his demands of them, in public, at the Capitol. Can you imagine Congress had inviting Fidel Castro, Kim Jong Un, or Vladimir Putin to address a joint session?
Excellent insights… I think there’s a bit of a chicken and egg question here. Is AIPAC so smart, or are their clients just good at helping their bosses look good / not look bad? Not important maybe.
A recent link off this site showed that Dems don’t get more from the Israel lobby, but a lot more, and it has fluctuated a bit but is a consistent pattern for many years. Some of this is relatively progressive lobbying like J street, so it’s complicated but intriguing.
The peace movement in the US has been in a state of coma….since Obomber became POTUS.
Maybe because of huge domestic and social problems, there is more focus on that… understandable.
Maybe the yellow vest can be an inspiration, having a 10 times better social, secure and healthcare system than in the US, they are fighting and demonstrating ( now for the 14 week in the row ) for a more just and equal system.
The ship US Empire is sinking ( quicker than climate change ) and taking the world down into the abyss with it.
Sure, there’s an angle of democratic partisanship related to the peace movement. I’m fully convinced bad stuff is brewing and something should be done about it. A movement takes a lot of people, and even then it might be ignored or brutally put down. I guess each of us tries to engage in a way that feels like it might make a difference.
At some threshold it feels so urgent for the majority that they will drop everything else to demand change, even when the path to change is unclear. Short of a draft, a change in the prevailing media narrative, or thousands in your country dying regularly as a consequence of the offending policy, I’m not sure how that comes about.
“Totally mad…”
This is what happens when your political career depends you being Israel’s b*tch.
