Less than 24 hours after President Obama announced a new round of military operations in Iraq, couched as a “humanitarian” endeavor aimed at preventing “genocide,” US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power was warning Russia against doing the exact same thing.
“Unilateral intervention by Russia into Ukrainian territory, including one under the guise of providing humanitarian aid, would be completely unacceptable and deeply alarming, and it would be viewed as an invasion of Ukraine,” Power noted.
With growing Russian concerns about the million-plus displaced civilians, many of them fleeing into Russia itself, and growing evidence of civilian deaths in the Ukrainian offensive, which the US is loudly cheering, the Obama Administration apparently could not miss the parallels between the narrative and their own assorted “humanitarian” adventures.
As Ukraine’s “anti-terrorist” force nears major eastern population centers like Donetsk and Luhansk, artillery blazing, Russia has been pushing for the creation of humanitarian corridors both to allow aid in and civilians out. Power insisted the US opposes this, and that all humanitarian problems in eastern Ukraine are Russia’s fault.
When did "Gomer" become GOD Almighty ?
This is the double moral, or no moral at all by the west especially USG and English. Although the Iraq "humanitarian" corridor entirely is not about helping Iraqis to stop or eliminate ISIS barbarian regime, but as always the talk by Uncle Sam helping hand this time have changed color, yet not the substance.
Only the demon USG is allowed to use Humanitarian Intervention as a pretext. They would know.
Good god… How does anyone fall for it?
completely unacceptable and deeply alarming
I find this highly troubling. Even profoundly disturbing. While terribly unsettling, and not at all greatly uplifting, I am deeply disappointed, yet, sadly, not surprised.
Sing it with me now! Rate your fake emotional reflexes 'till you drop!
I'm pretty sure PUTIN distributes VIAGRA to separtists so they can bring down CIVILIAN AIRLINERS all the better.
BOMB NOW!
"and it would be viewed as an invasion of Ukraine"
Yes, and?
who the fuck do the americans think they are…… all they have ever done for any one is bring death and destruction to every country they said they were going to help… russia should call there fithy nazi bluff and tell the world that it will give humanitery aid to eastern ukrain and help the civillion population and if any one interfers with its aid convoys… this will be considered an act of war against russia
Where does the US find these people like Powers to represent the country in front of the entire world? This woman has got a real burr up her butt over Russia, even to the point of being completely incomprehensible. Even an ignorant duffus would see the gross hypocrisy of her statement when compared with what is happening in Iraq. Do they think that no one will notice?
Where does the US find these …a partial answer might come from who their spouses are: Nuland/Kagan, Powers/Sunstein, … Just the two most egregious I can think of… Maybe it isn't so much the US who finds them.
It is normal for them to accuse you of exactly what they do. I sense that this Strategic Hypocrisy absolutely must be mastered in order to complete one's evil alter ego. Personally, I don't quite have it yet. But part of Dominance (think evil, now) is I get to but you don't. Once us onlookers are grossed-out by it for the umpteenth time, but remain more or less apathetic in the face of it, their power increases–to imperfectly summarize how one theory of evil gos.
The difference with Iraq is that the US is acting with the consent of the Iraqi government. What Russia is being warned against is any further violations of the Helsinki Final Act. Nor is there any question of the US annexing any part of Iraq's territory. Reports elsewhere claim that Russia has once again withdrawn the troops it had massed on the Ukrainian frontier. Sounds like Putin doesn't know which way to jump! Whichever way he jumps, he shoots himself in the foot. He's got himself into what Oliver Hardy would have called a "fine mess"!
I guess it's a good thing Russia holds itself to a higher standard. They could have claimed the Kosovo precedent for intervention several months ago.
Everything the US has gotten involved in since Kosovo and the excuses for their involvement could have been used as a precedent…it's the new American doctrine…inflame the radicals and then call the results of their reaction a humanitarian crisis we MUST respond to…And the American people get in line and drink the koolaid while believing the lies they're fed by the wholly-owned media.
They must not do what we just did in Iraq?
They certainly must not do what we are helping Israel do in Gaza?
The world is laughing at us.
The sad thing is Russian intervention would probably end the fighting very quickly. America has tortured Iraq for the past 11 years.
Powers warned Russia against sending humanitarian aid to eastern Ukraine? Since when has the USA preferred to allow women, children, the aged, and handicapped, as well as any non-combatant in a war zone to die, starve, and suffer when help is offered?
CANADA DELIVERS!

Did any member of the press awaken his slumber to question Ms. Power about this double standard? Or would that violate the Code of Objectivity?
"…violate the Code of Objectivity? …"
No, but it would surely remove them from the list of invitees to Powers' next imperial pronouncement.
