The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has dispatched a team of inspectors to Iran this weekend, and they began an intensive three-day inspection visit today under growing threats of an Israeli attack against Iran’s civilian nuclear sites.
The visit was being loudly welcomed by top Iranian officials, with their nuclear chief saying that the inspection would finally end international allegations that the program was anything but a legal, civilian program. Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi added that the IAEA inspectors would be given free and full access to any nuclear sites they requested.
The inspection team includes weapons experts, with the expectation that they will grill Iran over the alleged military ambitions of their program. Previous inspections have failed to uncover any solid evidence that there is any military program at all, which has only fueled further accusations from Western nations that Iran is hiding them. The IAEA’s current chief Amano Yukiya, has mostly gone along with these allegations, issuing a report warning that they couldn’t prove Iran didn’t secretly have a weapons program.
This time, however, the fear that Israel might start a massive regional war over the accusations is likely going to color any official IAEA statements coming out of the visit. Unfortunately any statement could theoretically be used as an excuse for a war, as Israel’s current government could spin any allegation as the “last straw” or present a lack of accusations as proof that the international community will never attack Iran and that they must do so unilaterally.
The Iranians are being laudably open but there is a risk that there are pro-Israel spies hidden among the inspectors who will pass on intelligence about the Iranian nuclear sites that can be used to plan attacks against the sites.
This is precisely what happened when Saddam Hussein allowed inspection teams into Iraq. The US has worked very hard to pack the IAEA with spies and stooges.
Iran should take about a month to show each system with the inspectors inside, if they have 12 plants, thy have one year to ignore the yoyos and let the world advancers crash and burn financially
The IAEA hasn't much in the way of credibility. Not any longer. Iran can bend over backwards for the IAEA and Iran will still be painted as the nuclear bad guys, The demands placed on Iran by the west, are unrealistic at best.
Israel wants Iran obliterated and ergo, whatever Israel wants, eventually Israel gets. War on Iran will be some damn ugly business. However, no one at the controls of US or Israeli government is listening to reason. This crap-o-la is tedious as it is tiresome.
Me thinks it's time to put Israel into an international time-out and let them stew in their warmongering juices for a while. Heck, they've always got Gaza to pound on. Sorry Palestine but, you know it's true.
They're not painted as bad guys by the IAEA, though.
Unfortunately, Saddam Hussein's willingness to allow inspections of his phantom nuclear facilities was futile. Not only were WMDs never found, but Hussein's cooperation was greeted with sanctions, invasion, occupation and massacre. Now Iran is falling into the same trap.
Even if the inspectors fail to find anything, they will continue to demand access elsewhere. The process will never end. In the meantime, these Zionist-friendly inspectors will be funneling intelligence to Israel and the Pentagon, making their subsequent war efforts against Iran all the more efficient.
Exactly. One way or another, the criminals end up winning. If Iran refuses, the mass murderers will say it's because the Persians are definitely up to something. If, as in this case, Iran allows these 'experts', they will say they are hiding something, so they must hurry to attack them so as to destroy their nuclear weapons program – a program that exists only in their fantasies.
Iran is just playing for time, it is absolutely necessary for Iran to grant NATO free access to any place any time in Iran, without restrictions on personnel or logistics and complete immunity for NATO military inspectors and surrender of any substance subject to UNSC sanctions in particular but not restricted to any enriched uranium. This again can only be considered a confidence building measure and unrelated to sanctions imposed by UNSC.
And vice versa, of course?
Are you joking or youn are REAL Dostoyevski (the title from his famous novel???)
Uh… where EXACTLY does NATO come into the picture here?
This is not an animé for underage kids, you know,
NATO would look better than just US and Israel, and anyhow the main contributor can still be the US, and since the Europeans have shown themselves to be such loyal followers who would doubt that they would oblige.
The Iranians expose themselves to huge personal risk when they cooperate with the IAEA. It was almost certainly meeting with IAEA inspectors that constituted the death warrant of several of the assassinated Iranian nuclear scientists.
They are brave men indeed to meet with the IAEA.
Or fools. Unfortunately, the Iranians seem to be losing their nerve.
This is the Iraq situation all over again. US “democratic" regime is a Israelis puppet, every US president needs to have war, a bigger war so the people will remember their name better, US and EU is losing their little war in Libya and in Syria. Look people: the Afghanistan and Iraq war idea was for US and EU to militarily occupy the entire Middle East for a larger portion of the world economy – superiority in the world.., by holding to world energy market (oil) US needs all kind of help they can get a helping hand by EU – US and Israel they can achieve this, that is to say if Russian and Chinese are going to be silent. Read the Paul Wolfowitz the father of all zionist in USA and his idea about that. Mr. Barak Hussein Obama and Hillary Clinton and rest of the leading democratic party are not less then the Bush-ism was nor they are going to back down on Paul Wolfowitz idea. Israel wants the war and they know that US would love to have that world economic domination so they pushing the idea knowing the history of US politicians naivety looking for wars after another. Look you want peace in Middle East then there is no other way for US and EU to boycott Israel on all front, making sure that Israel is not more important as Jordan is.
Reminds me of the third grade. Jason no-balls me that I can't prove The Moon ain't made of Green Cheese. So I get my shovel and I get on the next shuttle. I sure showed him… …Mom, please get me down from here. I promise I won't try this again.
Hey, s'ppose 'inspectors' can 'prove' the Moon is less then -say -20% green cheese? If not, seems like they're wasting your time and playing along with the war foreplay. Get a refund.
"Previous inspections have failed to uncover any solid evidence that there is any military program at all…"
That's not what the IAEA said. The IAEA, "indicates that Iran has carried out activities relevant to the development of a nuclear device."
pwnd
Old news. And still no bomb.
The IAEA CIA agents would be a more accurate description than 'inspectors'.
The purpose of the current confrontation with Iran is to destroy Iran's banking system and bring about a regime change so Iran's vast oil wealth can be turned back over to Bristish Petroleum and Exxon Mobile. The Iraq War had nothing to do with weapons of mass destruction, and the coming Iran War will have nothing to do with Iran's nuclear program.
The old "you can't prove you don't have something" routine again? When all else fails, I guess.
When will everybody wake up and understand that "nuclear" is a fake issue? The real issue is the dangerous threat to the sacred petrodollar if important crude-producing countries abandon it which is why Khadaffi had to go, why the current regime of Iran must go, why the current regime of Iraq is saddled with thousands of US soldiers and mercenaries to keep an eye on El Maliki, and why Assad will probably remain in power. He is not a threat.
Countries who have sworn to stick with the petrodollar until their oil runs out such as the House of Saud (that, folks, IS an oil patch with a country) are never in the USRAEL doghouse.
Maybe time for Iran to welcome some Russian and Chinese scientists to the sites, thus if bombed, the attacker will be taking out scientist from those nations?
HAS ANYONE NOTICED??? Why is this artical making it look like Iran is afraid of Israel? This artical makes it look like Iran let the inspectors in because Iran is afraid of Israel! And it was mentioned twice!
"" issuing a report warning that they [ the IAEA ] couldn’t prove Iran didn’t secretly have a weapons program. ""
Can the US prove it's not secretly harboring extraterrestrials at Area 51? Can the US prove the USS Eldridge didn't disappear and reappear hundreds of miles away during Project Rainbow in 1943? Can Israel prove it doesn't have nuclear weapons?
That quote is so full of fail I don't even know where to begin.
