Faced with growing outrage from top officials and threats from Sen. Joe Lieberman (I – CT) to launch a full boycott of the company for daring to host content so embarrassing to the US government, Amazon.com has decided to oust WikiLeaks content from their hosting service.
The move appears to have come without any consultation with WikiLeaks, and left their site down for much of the morning. The site is now back up and is based in Uppsala, Sweden. The new host is Bahnhof Internet AB.
Amazon has thus far declined to comment on its decision to oust WIkiLeaks from its Web Services, but WikiLeaks responded by saying “if Amazon are so uncomfortable with the first amendment, they should get out of the business of selling books.”
Sen. Lieberman praised the shutdown, saying Amazon “set the standard for other companies” on the issue. Lieberman has been an outspoken proponent of efforts to empower President Obama to shut down any websites he sees fit and indeed the entire Internet in the name of national security.
And again, we trashtalk the messenger instead of the perpetrators themselves- but of course, they're not going to hold themselves accountable for their actions, now are they? I have maintained from the start of the document dumps that people were going to be embarrassed and disgraced in the world community over their statements and actions, and lo and behold it has come to pass. The sad thing is, all of this hue and cry of treason and espionage is coming from the very administration that was elected partly on promoting 'transparency' in government- well, Mr. O, you have your transparency. Now that the world knows for a fact you have criminals working for you, will you take legal action against them, or at the very least remove them from their posts? Heads need to roll over this- but not Assange's. The heads that need to roll are those of the people charged with the security of this information, and those who facilitated its transfer to Assange.
I read that many a US politician is calling for WikiLeaks to be declared a 'terrorist organization'- does this mean that if this comes to pass we can expect drone strikes in Sweden to begin immediately? Will Assange and all the WikiLeaks staff be subject to elimination just like any other terrorists? Will they all go to Gitmo and face a military tribunal? Enquiring minds want to know.
"The new host is Bahnhof Internet AB."
Thank you, Bahnhof Internet AB! More balls than a Christmas tree! Don't quit our Julian!
The future Chancellor Palpadine. As Senate is getting stuck, he is taking the charge — unwillingly, of course!
Time to boycott these pigs. Too many competitors to rely on Amazon for anything, these days. They can have Joe Lieberman's business, but they lost mine.
Well, well, well– our own little Savonarola.
Current link for Wikileaks anyone?
That Amazon ad on the top left corner of the main page looks kind of silly next to this.
Gee P.I.— The top left ad on my screen is for the "Freedomsummit" "Where great minds of the modern freedom movement come together" Dec. 3-5 2010 @ the Sheraton Cresent (sic) Resort, Pheonix AZ [Interesting how the great minds spell or perhaps an anti Islamic spelling??]

…………………..interested enuff to post a "comment" here, and made a good faith effort, only then, upon using the "SUBMIT" button: yes, ONLY THEN for the text to be deemed "a little too long," and said comment was thus precluded. nevermind! maybe the net is already too difficult, and i might "give" said system a very special "reconsideration" that might already be rather overdue!
Just copy, and re-paste in two or more postings……No Problim,,!!
It is a bit more surprising when the comment needs to be first "approved", and then it most often does not show up. This has been a rather frequent occurence, even though my messages, compared to many others, do not contain abusive language, nor are out of line with the general sentiment. I guess the administrator simply does not like my way of thinking.
Fascists openly took over. Now is up to the people to either accept open fascism — now when the fascism is finally creeping in directly into the boiled frogs' (f.k.a. Americans) lives. Maybe they would wake the fuck up. Since the mass-killings abroad for decades have rendered them insensitive perhaps prodding their genitals and takin away all their freedoms would do the trick) — or to reject it.
But as long as majority idiot Amerikans vote for the Repugnant or Despicable wing of the same party, fascist is the government we will have. Pathetic TV watching, beer drinking, fat, ignorant pieces of crap need to grow a brain, turn off the box and pay attention. But – they won't because that would take effort, and ignorance is easy. Therefore, I am very, deeply sorry to say, the fascists have already won.
Lieberman…what a scoundrel.
