Not contented with the Obama Adminstration’s various pushes for additional sanctions on the international level and Congress’ unilateral sanctions, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman is calling for the US to adopt a Cuba-style embargo on Iran.
Speaking of the embargo, Lieberman said it “has already proven its efficacy” and “is strong enough to strangle and topple the Iranian regime.” The United States embargo began in March 1958, and was repeatedly strengthened throughout the 1960’s.
But despite Lieberman’s convictions that the sanctions worked swimmingly, relations with Cuba continued to sour until October of 1962, when the sanctions brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.
Even putting that aside, the near total embargo has been in effect for nearly half a century, and has failed to “strangle and topple” the Cuban regime. Far from a “solution” to the conflict, the embargo seems to be ‘proven’ only in its ability to escalate tensions over the long term.
So, they're hoping this will result in Iran having the highest standard of living and best health care system in the region?

Politiciandude needs to upgrade his IQ by around 50 points. "Cuba-style" for a country adjoining Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Iraq and lotsa Caucasus Countries via Inland Sea Route? And nowhere near the US? Yeah, that's gonna work.
Not to mention that AFAIK Europe doesn't care about the currently ongoing US-Congress-Centric "Cuba Embargo".
Not to mention Canada. Canada is one of Cuba's largest trading partners, and the single largest source of tourists.
Surely there must be more to to an Israeli FM's life than whingeing about Iran all day long….??
Interesting that an ex-bar bouncer as well as one time alluded to a bordello manager from Moldava is demanding that the US impose a Cuba-like embargo on Iran.
Maybe the question aught to be put to the Obama administration as to what their reaction is to such a demand by a certain named Lieberman?
If there is any country or government to be band or economically embargoed by the west.., as Israel says.., is Israel himself. The only language that the government of Israel would understand is the boycott of its goods. In the other hand it seams that it is Israel and its apartheids regime who orders the Europeans and the US government what to do and obey its demand in what to be done about Iran and other nations around this world.., yet for Israel to do whatever and wherever they want without being punished. The question is: is EU and US have become the slaves to the Israel notions because of the holocaust…, or the western politicians are totally bought out by the Israelis Neo-Con or if you will Neo-Fascism in US and EU. As we speak the generals of the Balkan wars which was a art work of Madeline Albright.., Bill Clinton and Tony Blair and his gang of political mafia are prosecuted in international court.., if the US or EU politicians are not bought by the Neo.Cons why is it that non of them talking about boycotting Israel for its 50 years of atrocity toward Palestinians or bring those who are responsible for the killings of children’s and elderly to the international court of justice….?
