Report: Obama Poised to Announce 45,000 Troop Escalation in Afghanistan
British Government's Troop Surge Came Amid Claims of US Assurances
The Obama Administration has reportedly told the British government that it intends to announce an escalation of another 45,000 troops in Afghanistan, potentially as soon as next week.
The report comes despite claims that the Obama Administration is continuing to hold talks about the strategy, though this seems to be more based on the question of whether to emphasize the failed battle against the Taliban or focus what will soon be over 100,000 troops on fighting the roughly 100 al-Qaeda members reportedly in the nation.
Britain announced that it intends to send another 500 soldiers to Afghanistan to bolster its 9,000-strong force. The announcement reportedly came as a result of the US assurances, and despite the growing domestic opposition to the war.
Several Democrats, including House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, have expressed reservations about the massive escalation, particularly coming just seven months after the administration’s last escalation. Yet Rep. Hoyer urged fellow Democrats to go along with whatever President Obama decides.

In looking at the pathetic, smiling face of that hapless, mass-murdering fool, as he escalates the senseless violence in Afghanistan, you'd never guess that our dollar's crashing, job losses mounting, infrastructure's crumbling, etc.
Words simply fail me as I try to contemplate what must be going on inside the "mind" of a "person" such as this, who could so happily preside over the political, economic and moral destruction of his own country.

Well I fully expected Obama to eventually go along with the warmonger faction, but I thought tthere would be a lot more waffling first. This is going to be real bad.

And 45,000 troops, does that also mean another 30,000 do-gooder tag-alongs in tow?
And I guess Commander and Chief Obama is too busy compromising on healthcare to comprise on what the Democrats have done best since 2006, enable neoconservatives.

Robert Gibbs has denied the story that this column is based on – so, it seems unclear whether to accept this pronouncement as fact or speculation. My own guess is that this story is wrong – that Obama will not announce an escalation of 45,000 troops – but that is only a guess based on a more recent analysis of the news than the story above. The BBC have now retracted their coverage of the story. Here is the link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8308133.stm

Indeed, perhaps the word of the Afghan ambassador, who lived in the USA since the 80's working as a lawyer until I'd guess not long after 9/11, should not be regarded as someone with the inside track on this. It's clear what his own ambitions and desires are and he needs a lot of foreign intervention to make it happen.

The Telegraph is a neoconservative mouthpiece and policy beta tester.
It seems like this is one of those "leaks" that are used to test the waters. Government's leak things all the time to gauge public opinion before making decisions. Reaction to the leak is taken as a good indicator of reaction to the policy.
The US media appears to be ignoring it which is a good sign it appears to have passed the first test.

Expect alot more than 45,000 troops. Canada has announced it will pull all of it's troop by 2011.
Some blackflag operation will take place and India will get envolved. USA/Brits are masters at this.

[...] Unworthy of a Nobel Peace Prize. Alfred Nobel's will stated the Nobel Peace Prize was to go to "the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses". Alfred Nobel held a radical vision of peace and so those winners should share this radical view. Alas, Barack Obama does not.
