Yemen’s Houthis said the US-backed Saudi-led coalition launched 18 airstrikes in Yemen’s Marib province on Monday.
Local residents told Xinhua that Monday’s strikes hit Houthi military targets and weapons depots. Although no civilian casualties have been reported, the coalition frequently targets civilian infrastructure.
The heavy bombardment came a day after Saudi warplanes reportedly killed 34 Houthis in Marib on Sunday.
The Saudis blamed the Houthis for a failed attack on Riyadh that took place on Saturday. But the Houthis have denied responsibility and an Iraqi militia has since taken responsibility.
Calls are growing for President Biden to end support for the Saudis war in Yemen and reverse the Trump administration’s decision to designate the Houthis as a terror organization.
Due to the coalition’s siege tactics, Yemenis are suffering from severe food shortages, mass starvation, and widespread disease, in what the UN has called the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
