Afghan officials claimed a battle in Kandahar Province had killed at least 50 Taliban fighters and wounded 87 others. They did not offer any casualty figures for the government forces. The Taliban claimed to have killed 30 soldiers in the fighting.
In addition to the Taliban, Afghan officials say two Pakistani military advisers embedded with the Taliban were also killed. Pakistan has not commented on that, but if true that could be a serious issue.
In addition to the fighting in Kandahar, the Afghans also claimed another 25 Taliban killed in Helmand and Nimroz Provinces. They accused the Taliban of plotting to attack Helmand Province.
Yet just a day prior, the US made a deal in which the Taliban promised to end its Helmand offensive. That offensive had ended by the weekend anyhow, and the Afghan government was pushing its counteroffensive in the area. This suggests the counteroffensive is continuing, despite the US deal meant to stop the fighting.
The Pakistanis need to improve on the advice they give…
Which means they probably killed two Taliban. Can’t wait to see old Ghani swing from a lamppost in Kabul.
