US plans for the ongoing war in Syria are, as they so often have been throughout, built around the idea that they can win by arming and propping up the right proxy forces. This is built around the other major US plan, to take Syria’s oil.
Indeed, an agreement on Delta Crescent Energy LLC making a contract on Syrian oil with the Syrian Kurds detailed further plans to bolster the Kurdish SDF and create a force affiliated with them that will guard the US-occupied oilfield.
Official reports played up the US coordination with the SDF, and suggests that there is substantially more SDF capability that they intend to create going forward. That isn’t to say it doesn’t leave open some questions, however.
Even if this is the ultimate plan for taking Syria’s oil, it is not clear what the timeline is for removing the rest of the troops. If this is the endgame scenario, presumably having the SDF protect the oil frees up US troops to leave.
It’s also not clear what all of this is going to cost. The Syrian oil is fairly minimal, and the revenue will be low, so the US is probably going to have to subsidize the occupation above and beyond that.
The US plan does seek to deny oil to Assad, but that is not the main motive. It is geographical, to block to overland path from Iran to Israel, and to provide support for an aerial path from Israel to Iran. It is all about war on Iran, as pushed by Israel.
Trump does nothing without Israeli backing. Nothing. His entire candidacy was an Israeli plot. Biden is no different. They own both CVS and Walgreens.
more self defeating amerikan idiocy—they pay more to guard and attempt to steal the insignificant amount of oil in syria that they obtain in income—of course many of the caravans bound for Turkey r destroyed by Russian/Syrian war planes
Eventually US forces will leave & the SDF will lose control of the oil fields
Yes, they have no long term future, and the US does not really care about that.
The US is doing this to target Iran. It will last only as long as this particular project against Iran.
Thats what they always do.
“Syrian proxies”……to..”mercenaries”
fixed
We are living in a time where US criminal acts, gangster practice, threats and blackmail diplomacy, assassination, torture, racisme and theft….. are all out in the open.
No accountability, no critic, no condemnation…..but massive hypocrisy from US allies, all are afraid of being sanctioned if they dare falling out of line.
Imagine a world where the US had achieved full world domination.
We have no such goal and you know it. The annihilation of Iran’s current regime is the goal. We will make it happen. Syria just chose the wrong playmate and they are in our way.
It would not have mattered what playmate Assad chose, it is Israel and the Saudis that are the pressure points in this action, the Israelis want to be able to get oil and Gas out of the Golan Heights, The Saudis will attack any Islamic country that is not Sunni, and their particular version of Sunni Islam. every country but Afghanistan that the US has attacked has been a Shiite country or have practiced Baathist Politics. it has been the Saudis that have steered US attacks upon these countries!
Syria’s geographic location has them in a pickle. Everyone either wants a piece of their territory or access through it.
Keep drinking the Kool Aid.
Annihilation in that region is sadly redundant. Israelstine needs to put down the knives, declare a draw, then have a conciliation for a few years. Modern Abrahamic faith must be based on unconditional Love for all. It starts in the heart. Peace and Love.
i used to empathize with the kurds. But they’ve proven themselves to be nothing but backstabbers.
The Kurds and SDF are thief`s and traitors to their Syrian countrymen. The Syrian government has tried to negotiate with the Kurds many times, but the SDF sabotage the meetings.
“Kurd” is an ethnicity, not a political position.
The SDF together with YPG is the political and military force of the Syrian Kurds.
The SDF now also consist of former ISIS members, other radical and jihadi groups, trained by the US.
