A large explosion at an arms depot in Syria’s Homs Province on Friday caused a substantial number of civilian casualties, wounding over 20 according to some reports. The Syrian government confirmed the explosion, but what happened seems disputed.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that this was the result of an Israeli strike, which is something that has been happening in the area quite often lately. Since this warehouse was claimed to belong to Hezbollah, it’s also credible that Israel would attack it.
Syria’s Army, however, issued its own statement saying that the series of blasts was not caused by an attack, though they did not say what the alternative reason would be for a large explosion in Homs.
Israel hasn’t commented, but this is not unusual, as they have in recent days refused to comment on attacks, but also said that they aren’t going to stop attacking Syria. The Syrian government may wish to avoid drawing attention to that, however, since they have so far been unable to prevent such strikes.
Meh. Or, some guard got careless with a cigarette.
Israel will continue bombing its neighbors until some real cost is imposed on it for doing so. That is the only language it understands, the only reason to stop killing.
Good point, but the language at work is more subtle, the propaganda of shadow power.
While its doubtful that Israel is behind every arms depot explosion, they’d like to be, or more accurately, seen to be potent and untouchable.
However, that Israel is unashamed of being involved in what are essentially acts of state terrorism, says more about us, their unwilling allies, than Israel. No-one really expects better of Israel.
