Last week, Iranian officials emphasized that US sanctions are making their reaction to the coronavirus outbreak much more difficult, leading to both Iran and China to urge the US to put those sanctions on hold for humanitarian reason.
Not going after Iran for humanitarian reasons, needless to say, isn’t a policy that the administration considers, and the US announced more sanctions against Iran on Tuesday, saying they are part of the ongoing ‘maximum pressure campaign.’
But it wouldn’t be the Trump Administration if they didn’t rub it in. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo followed this up by declaring “The Wuhan virus is a killer and the Iranian regime is an accomplice,” arguing that Iran is being incompetent in reacting to the pandemic.
Iran isn’t being successful in controlling the outbreak, of course, but US sanctions are preventing them from buying a lot of medicine or equipment to treat the sick. The US military had some officials openly presenting this as part of the US strategy, believing that sick and dying Iranians would slow their ability to make decisions that threaten the US.
The American empire has sought to destroy and reclaim Iran since it broke free in 1978.

I agree, that is my whole point. Now, I know I am going to piss off a few people here with what I am about to say. I think even wars r u.s. would disagree with me on this. My question is, given the validity of what I have quoted above, is there really such a thing as a willfully evil person?
Don’t we all, given the limited knowledge we possess, do the best we can with it? Wouldn’t we all, if we had the power, wish to make things better for everyone? Isn’t humankind’s enemy not willful evil, per se, but simply ignorance?
I am not discounting the existence and importance of free will, I am just saying that in many cases, it has its limitations. I have some experience with this issue in regard to mental illness, both my own and that of others. To illustrate my point with an example:
My former girlfriend is both bipolar and schizo-affective, and has as well many psychological problems brought on by an abusive upbringing by her grandmother. For many years she was physically abusive with me, to the point of nearly killing me a couple of times. While I fought back sometimes to protect myself, there was also within me sometimes a profound anger and rage toward her, the thought that she was willfully, deliberately beating me to a pulp out of spite and jealousy, which I couldn’t comprehend. But in her mind, it was I who had been deliberately trying to do psychological harm to her for many years, and her abuse was simply her fighting back at me for the things I had done. Now the miracle: A couple of years ago she started taking a new medication, and has not had a major anger episode since. She rarely even gets annoyed with me anymore, and I can be quite annoying, believe me. She has apologized to me, not only for the beatings, but even for ever getting angry with me in the first place, and has explained to me that the knowledge and new perspective she has obtained would not have been possible if her brain had never been treated. And, of course, I have apologized to her for not comprehending where she was coming from, and attributing it all simply to “evil.” (I really should have known better, as at times my own illness has made my perception of reality every bit as confused as hers, and, just because I did not react violently, I should understand that EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.)
Applying this to our current political situation: We should always try to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes before condemning them. It’s fine to condemn their actions, but to condemn their spirit, without really knowing what is going on in their heart, mind and soul, is inappropriate. Yeah, it is very easy to judge goons like Trump or Biden, but, perhaps, in their own way, given their limited knowledge and experiences, they really do think they are doing the right thing.
On the cross, Christ forgave the people who were torturing and killing him because “they know not what they do.” If he did that, isn’t it possible, in fact, that in his eyes, we ALL know not what we do?
