Four days into the week-long “reduction of violence” deal between the US and the Taliban, things are still going quite well. Accusations of violations are fairly minor, and violence is down substantially.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was even more upbeat on the matter, saying the reduction of violence is “working perfectly” so far, despite conceding that things could change in the future.
Either way, the 7 day deal is more than half over, and just has to hold a bit longer to last until Saturday, when it will be replaced with a formal peace deal between the US and Taliban, ending 19 years of conflict.
The Afghan government claimed six Afghan civilians were killed in a Taliban attack in Balkh, but this seems not to be imperiling the overall process, and there seems to be no denying that violence has been reduced, overall.
Here is an article that looks at recent statistics from the war in Afghanistan that prove that the United States is far from ending its involvement in the nation:

Washington’s nation-building exercise in Afghanistan has proven to be an 18 year long failure.
“The Afghan government claimed six Afghan civilians were killed in a Taliban attack in Balkh, but this seems not to be imperiling the overall process, and there seems to be no denying that violence has been reduced, overall.”
Whew! Thank goodness it wasn’t an American that was killed. I guess 6 Afghan civilians aren’t equal to one red, white and blue all American Yankee doodle dandy.
This agreement is a textbook example of how to mislead with statistics. The Trump administration trumpets that it will bring soldiers home. What it does not tell you is that the number of soldiers then remaining in Afghanistan is exactly equal to the number in Afghanistan on day one of the Trump administration.
Tip for future Presidents on Afghanistan. If you need to look good for your second election increase the number of soldiers in Afghanistan soon after your first inauguration. Then in year four talk about an agreement with the Taliban that brings the number back to what it was on your first day in the White House.
And the third paragraph of this report is the great drivel. Read Pepe Escobar in Asia Times. He knows what he is talking about. Ditz is blabbering. There will be no peace in Afghanistan.
What I don’t get is why does there have to be a reduction in violence in order to proceed with peace deal. 18 years of war and we cant stop unless the Taliban don’t attack for 1 week? WTH goes on in the mind of anyone who proposes such an absolutely idiotic thing. Do the people in charge of us have any critical thinking skills? Do they realize how utterly stupid this concept is? I think I could pick random 1st graders from the poorest performing schools in the country and get more critical thinking than you get in the average Washington swamp creature. It is a Miracle how 16-20 years of education can literally create persons with no ability to engage a neuron even by accident.
