In an interview on CNBC today, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that President Trump is “fully prepared” to engage in military force against Turkey if he believes it is necessary to do so.
Asked to elaborate on what might make it necessary, Pompeo said anything
that was an American interest, or if the US believed there was a
“fundamental norm” that they wanted to enforce could be a reason to use
“all the powers that we have.”
Attacking Turkey is potentially problematic, both in that they are a
fellow NATO member, and that the US is operating out of an air base in
Turkey, a base where the US has an estimated 50 nuclear bombs.
This is more of a threat to Turkey than the US has offered previously.
President Trump did threaten to totally destroy their entire economy,
though this appeared to be an empty threat to destroy the economy
through sheer force of will.
This is a specific war threat in northern Syria, and comes as President
Trump concedes that the troops he’s announced were coming home won’t actually be returning to the US any time soon, rather staying in Iraq just in case.
I think the thing I find most insulting about Pompeii’s statement here is that he openly wears the laurels having never earned them by conquering a new province for the empire..
Attacking a NATO ally and tricker article 5……that would be the end of NATO, because the US would not allow any NATO member to enforce article 5 …..go ahead morons.
“Asked to elaborate on what might make it necessary, Pompeo said anything that was an American interest”
That can’t be good. That covers the entire planet. And outer space.
The end of NATO and if you
drive the 80 million Turks into the arms of the 80 million Iranians then
maybe they`d be smart enough to join with the 200 million Pakistanis
with their 150 nukes.
“You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em …”
I think it’s time to run.
Casual military threats against an ally of 70 years … as if words mean nothing. And the Dims, judging by the Syria vote, are not any better. Any safe place to run to?
None.
U.S will be bobbing on Erdogan’s apples before they’ll start any war with Turkey.
Getting snotty with a NATO ally? Wow! Those bone-spurs aren’t stopping him now.
