Images of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un riding a white house on the nationally significant Mt. Paektu is being covered heavily in North Korea’s state media, not just for the sight of Kim riding through a snowy trail, but for what this might mean in the future.
North Korea’s news agency dubbed the horse ride “a great event of
weighty importance in the history of the Korean revolution,” and
suggested it signaled some major policy shift Kim was considering.
What this “great operation to strike the world with wonder again” might
even be was unclear, though the reporters claimed officials who
accompanied Kim were overflowing with joy about whatever it is to be.
Anything big would probably be related to restarting US talks, or
testing missiles, since those are the big North Korean priorities. It is
also entirely possible that Kim was just riding a horse, though the
North Korean media seems to believe that is unlikely.
