Following news that an Iranian oil tanker was attacked with missiles off the coast of Saudi Arabia, the US has announced that they will send 3,000 ground troops and two squadrons of fighter jets to Saudi Arabia to “confront” Iran.
Though the timing of this seems fairly obviously linked to the missile
incident, Pentagon officials made no mention that it even happened,
instead citing last month’s drone attack on Saudi oil refineries, which
Yemen’s Houthis claimed credit for but the US blamed on Iran.
The US had already sent troops and defensive missiles to the Saudi
kingdom over the refineries. Defense Secretary Mark Esper claimed the
move was based on a “heightened threat” from Iran.
Tensions are certainly higher, even if the Iranian threat is almost
always overstated. Having an oil tanker hit with missiles would
certainly have this effect on tensions. The rapid announcement of this
deployment by the Pentagon suggests they weren’t exactly taken by
surprise at this incident with the oil tanker.
Having US troops in Saudi Arabia at all is historically controversial.
Indeed, it was one of the main grievances of al-Qaeda before 9/11,
believing it was inappropriate to have US troops in their holy land.
Adding thousands more is only going to make this a bigger deal.
Will this be an endless war or are we just going to obliterate? I know Trump doesn’t like the endless variety so I can only assume it’s time to BLAST!
cocaine is a helluva drug.
All depends, wars. Are we just waiting for the next false flag that comes after the mysterious projectiles hitting that Iranian tanker, which might also be a false flag event? This is so not about Trump anymore.
Trump hates having to confront grieving parents. he hass promised no more wars in the Middle East. leets see if he can keep his promises. I believe our late friend Justin and i were right about Trump..
Not a lot of KIA in Afghanistan the last few years, but so far in all of Trump’s three years as president there have been more than in Obama’s last year as president.
He’ not overly concerned with the grieving parents in places we continue to bomb with impunity. Or the grieving parents who can’t provide for their families in countries he has sanctioned to the hilt. If you and Raimondo thought he was a heartless bastard, then you indeed were right about him
As I’ve said numerous times, it doesn’t matter what Trump “wants.” If a situation can be engineered by those who *do* want war, he will be forced to do what they want.
It should be obvious by now that he does *not* have the balls to confront the Deep State. He’s floundering around with no plan and no conception of what needs to be done. He has zero intellectual depth and no knowledge of anything outside of real estate.
I have to admit of a recent increasing sympathy for Trump – a natural reaction of Russiagate, Ukrainegate and the liberal resistance to leaving Syria. But it was a short doze and I just woke up … Sending troops to another part of the Middle East is consistent with Trump’s inconsistency. In physical terms, this man creates nothing but entropy; his contradictory actions cancel themselves and all left is entropy. He creates crises, then tries to solve them. He creates chaos (instead of the Queen of Chaos we elected the King of chaos), and then tries to put it in order. The common denominator is ME. He can’t control himself and always must do something “original” – I wish he was a smart lazy, but no, he is a hard working fool.
And there is another problem – his blind followers. They will reelect him, regardless of his actions. They will always find a rational to justify his irrationality (and beside, one never questions God). They can read his mind and anyone who doesn’t agree with their Trump’s worshiping must be a part of the “resistance”. It is all binary, either you are with Trump or you are with the resistance; free thinkers and common sense are excluded.
It is time to stop the binary thinking. Democrats are stupid, no doubt about it, but Republicans are stupid too. Time to think outside the partisan box.
You’ll recall that I predicted the US would be sending more troops to Saudi Arabia (and Iraq) after the “few hundred” that were sent for the purpose of installing more air defense around the Saudi oil fields.
There will be more – lots more – sent as the US prepares for its intended war with Iran. Saudi Arabia is the only “safe” country – as compared with Iraq – for the US to stage the troops needed to attack Iran on the ground.
Yet, according to Trump, it’s all good because SA is paying for it. (You know, like prostitution.) So, now our troops are hired Mercenaries and Trump is the whore master. Everything is for sale and to the highest bidder. (I’m not knocking prostitutes but it is a reasonable analogy…)
Guess it depends what the prostitute is selling……;?)
DoD doesn’t move that fast. This was in the works. It wasn’t caused by the latest missile strike on the Iranian tanker.
Looks like Trump has brought those troops in Syria back home to Saudi Arabia. MAGA!
What troops were redeployed from Syria last year went to western Iraq, sparking objections from the Iraqi government. I believe these Saudi units are new from the US, adding to the ME escalation under trump.
I meant that as an absurd figure of speech. Of course Saudi Arabia isn’t their “home” any more than western Iraq is. It just proves that Trump’s “bring the troops home” rhetoric is all BS.
No, I didn’t think you meant that, I am saying these troops into Saudi Arabia are not “redeployed” within the ME, but represent a further escalation of US troops from the US into the ME.
Or to occupy Saudi Arabia. This will not fly. We just never learn.
3000 more targets for the mysterious “projectiles” that yesterday hit an Iranian oil tanker. Who would have an interest in stirring up tensions in the ME and dragging us into another f-ing war? Almost certainly it isn’t Iran.
Waste of tax payer’s money….! Yes, 70% of your federal taxes goes to military and war spending…!
Iran will never invade Saudi Arabia to confront these 3000 additional troops….! US is just keeps milking the stupid SA for more arms…That’s all…
If only the US would send more troops and fighters, they could launch a coup against MBS and the royal family. Iran is surrounded with US troops in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Bahrain, UAE, and Afghanistan.
The upcoming meeting between MBS and Russian President President Putin could be a game changer.
